We had the good fortune of connecting with Annie Purcell and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Annie, other than deciding to work for yourself, what was the single most important decision you made that contributed to your success?
My current business is my second business. I started my career by working for myself by opening my own private medial practice as a physician doing Spine and Sports Medicine. The decision to work for myself was a key component in my success and longevity in my career as a physician. However, when I opened that first business I was missing the key mindset component that I have now, which is the single most important decision I made for the success of my current business: I DECIDED THAT MY SUCCESS IS INEVITABLE! In the first business, I made very cautious progress, being careful to earn the money that I needed to grow the practice before spending it. I was very risk averse and it slowed me down in many ways. If I would have run the business with the mentality that I knew I would succeed, I would have invested up front on many things that eventually helped us grow. I would have had more progress and much sooner if I had not been constantly waiting to make sure we were doing well and it would be worth the investment. With Next Level Daily, I have the confidence in myself as a business owner and entrepreneur, and I know my success is inevitable. This is what allows me to take big leaps and make huge progress. I am not holding myself or my business back.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
The Next Level Daily planner was developed out of my personal passion for productivity and organization! I was a busy professional and constantly list making and trying different planners and organizational systems, I never found one that contained all of the components that were important to me: a professional look, inclusion of daily gratitude and mindfulness, morning routine and evening routine, a prioritized task list, agenda, habit tracker, financial tracking and a section to re-evaluate vision, goals and life balance every 90 days. I also wanted an undated planner that could be picked up and started at any time and with no wasting of pages if you take a day or week off. This product didn’t exist. So with no knowledge of the planner industry, my partner and I decided to design a PDF with everything we wanted and see if we could find somewhere to print it and test it out. The Next Level Daily planner was born! We loved using it and we listed it for sale on Amazon as a “side hustle” just to see what happened. The next thing we knew, the planners were selling themselves with no marketing! The feedback we received on our reviews was so rewarding. Our little passion project was helping the lives of so many others so we knew we had to invest back into the business. The challenges were that we had no experience with marketing or the technical side of this type of business. The most important lesson we have learned along the way is to pick the areas that we are experts in and to pay good money to other people in the areas where we are not. A good entrepreneur needs to outsource wherever possible and stick to the zone of genius. It was overwhelming when I felt like I needed to learn every aspect of this new business from scratch.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
As a life-long Los Angeles Rams fan, the first place that I would take friends is to the new SoFi Stadium for a Rams game! The stadium looks amazing and I will be patiently waiting out COVID until I can finally see a game there in person. I have fond memories of watching the Rams play in the coliseum including when we beat the Seahawks there last year, but I am ready to welcome in the new era at SoFi with my people! If kids are involved, I love to take my boys to the Santa Monica pier and beach or to the Aquarium of the Pacific in Long Beach. One of my favorite places for a girl’s night out is Katana LA in West Hollywood for sushi followed by a drink at the Tower Bar at the Sunset Tower Hotel.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My business coach Alon David (owner of 90x Goal Planner)! He has helped me get into much more of an entrepreneur mindset, which is a big jump for most physicians. I admire his willingness to coach me when we are in a similar industry and to go all in on helping me succeed. I also love that we can collaborate and share ideas as well as test different things out in our businesses and have a like-minded colleague to turn to.
