We had the good fortune of connecting with Angie Ojeda and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Angie, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
I knew I always wanted to start my own business, but I needed it to be an endeavor that I was truly passionate about. I love traveling and I love bringing people together. The more traveling I did, the more friends, connections, and memories I made and continued to want to make. So, sharing ideas with other travelers is where I found my niche. The process of starting my own business was not easy, but it was absolutely worth it. To nurture and flourish a business, you must be able to effectively communicate, sell, learn, and strategize. Being an entrepreneur requires time, focus, prioritization, determination, confidence, and a lot of patience. If you can dream it, you can do it.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I love what I do! I believe when you’re doing something for a living that you love, it’s doesn’t even feel like work. You can have fun with what you do for a living. Naturally, I love connecting with new people and bringing people together.

I am an Entrepreneur for several businesses. Founder & CEO for Roam Red, LLC a social platform that connects travelers, nomads, and explorers to make travel plans together. I am also the Founder for Safire Events, LLC, an international event management company.  I am the CEO for Angie Ojeda Enterprises, my own freelance platform offering professional services for hire. My heart is set on traveling, and I knew I wanted to focus more on Roam Red, because not only was this my niche, but I knew I had a scalable idea that would grow internationally.

Perseverance has been my best friend. It has definitely been challenging, but not impossible. Entrepreneurship is the good and the bad, the risks and the wins, but it evolves into success if you are willing to put in the time. When growing your own business, you have to step out of your comfort zone. You will never know it all, but that’s why you build a team and hire people who can do the things well that you cannot. Most importantly, always stay humble. Money can make you financially rich, but it can also make you poor in many other ways. So stay humble and stay in praise.

Being a Latina in the tech industry and startup world are all things I am proud of. I am most proud of the courage and tenacity that has brought me to this point, and because of that, I know these won’t be my only successful endeavors. As Walt Disney once said, “All our dreams can come true, if we have the courage to pursue them.”

I want all our members to know, all the time spent researching the market, staying abreast of competitors, and prioritizing the needs of this company was ultimately for them. The challenges were all worth it because I knew what Roam Red has to offer: a valuable and memorable experience meeting like-minded people, making new friends, and rendezvousing with familiar faces. Traveling has never been more stress-free. It’s an investment in your network and growth, with all traveling plans streamlined in one place.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I love showing people around Austin, Texas! After all, it’s one of the top cities to live in and visit. A day spent in Austin with me would start off by having breakfast at Taquero Mucho! With all the fun pink decor for Instagram pics, delicious food, and refreshing drinks, it’s a worthy first stop. Afterwards, we would go for a hike on the Greenbelt where you will find natural spring-fed pools and waterfalls to take a quick plunge and refreshing swim. Along the way we would stop by the Pennybacker (aka 360) Bridge and Mount Bonnell to take in gorgeous panoramic views of the Colorado River. For lunch we would go to Uchi, because they have the best sushi! We would then go on a friend’s boat to enjoy Lake Travis, cruise around, tie up on Devil’s Cove for a party or do some jet skiing. I’d follow that up with a tour of the Capitol of Texas, to really get a feel for Texas history. For some authentic Austin vibes, we’d check out some of its most iconic outdoor art such as the “I Love You” mural. For the evening we would go out to the Oasis and catch the gorgeous sunset over the lake as our backdrop for photos. For local beverages we would then head to the famous Rainey Street, where they have lovely hang out spots with nice patios, some with live music. And after a long week of fun things to do, we would end by having a nice relaxing massage at Lake Austin Resort. There’s still so much more to do. Austin is worth making several trips to, with so many fun events through the year!

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I first want to thank God, because HE has given me the ability to succeed, the strength to keep going, and HE put the right people in my life that have been my biggest supporters and mentors. My husband has been so encouraging through all my failures and successes. He’s been incredibly understanding and patient with the lifestyle of work that comes with entrepreneurship. My husband makes the perfect life travel partner. My best friends of course have been my biggest cheerleaders, shoulders, and sounding boards throughout all the obstacles. I have also met many entrepreneurs who have become my mentors. I highly recommend networking with other business owners, tucking away your pride, and truly soaking in all the guidance, constructive critiques, and words of encouragement and wisdom they have to offer.
