We had the good fortune of connecting with Angela Williams and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Angela, what’s the most important thing you’ve done for your children?
I was a single parent if 3 one of the most important things I worked very hard on with all of my children since they started school was to let them know everyone is different and to never judge or tease others and to stick up for someone being bullied or teased. A little boy at the school my kids were going to smell and nobody wanted to play with him or be his friend. My daughter came home very sad and not knowing what to do. I told her we don’t know what someone is going through at home or even do they have a home or a mom, dad. maybe he doesn’t have a place to bath or money to get clothes so we need more than ever to be his friend and make sure he at least has the feeling of love at school no matter what. Explaining to my kids that you do not know what people are going through at home and we need to be aware that some might have nothing and those are the ones we need to give friendship and caring too with no judgment. We love all people and treat everyone with respect always. They do this day are those humans that care for all and have empathy. They give back in our community throughout the year in so many different ways. Im so proud of the human beings they have become.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I have been in the event industry in Las Vegas / California for the past 25 years. I love everything about this industry the craziness, stress and hard work. Most importantly the feeling you get when you have made someone’s vision or dream come true. Seeing the happiness on my client’s face is addictive and probable why I have worked so hard to be the best I can. I was a homeless teen in the bay area, I didn’t even graduate high school. I got married and had 3 children by the time I was 22. Was divorced by 25 and single mom. I worked hard never gave up did jobs like server, call center you name it I did it. when I went from restaurants to catering I thought oh I love this, catering for events it was different everyday and I liked the buzz of everyone running around putting it all together before the guest show up. After working for some of the best chefs in the world from Wolfgang puck, Charlie Palmer, Thomas Keller. I learned so much but wanted to experience a different side which is when I became executive sales for Mandalay Bay events department. Great experience loved it. Then I went into Event Sales and deign with Classic Party Rentals after working for them for a year until I was told they are claiming bankruptcy and unless the location gets picked up by another company it will close. I couldn’t bare the thought of all these hard working people with children losing their jobs. So I called the president of the classic and asked if could I buy it and how can buy it I want to save our team here. I found someone to back me financially and after some crazy days fighting corporate lawyers I won and was the new owner of Epic Event Rentals in Las Vegas. It was amazing I had a great loyal hardworking team and we worked our buts off to make it here in Vegas. We ended up after a while selling to another and merging the company to become bigger and better. I never in a million year would have thought I would have the career I have made for myself not to mention owning a company. I came from nothing to being single mom 3 kids. They gave me the strength everyday to work hard and show them you can do anything with hard work. After pandemic put events on a hold for few years I have now landed at an amazing company out of San Francisco & Las Vegas called Blueprint Studios doing amazing events all around the globe. The owner Mircea empowers all his employees to be Entrepreneurial, creative and put our clients first and foremost. I love being around people who believe in the relationship of clients. I am 52 now and have done every part of this industry from operations, catering, sales, design, production to the owner. I love this industry and all the people in it and thank my friends, and colleagues for everything to help me have such an amazing career.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I want to thank my first real boss in sales Carl Bird, I was 24 never graduated high school and became a mom at 18, with all my kids in school I was ready and eager to get a job. I knew I would be good at some sort of sales job. Carl Bird was the Director of Sales at Specialized Bikes and he hired me with zero experience and I appreciated him for giving me a chance. After training I started out with little bike shops selling water bottles. YES, water bottles . after 6 months I was bored and asked if I could be let free to go find other business. I told him we don’t need to just sell to bike shops these could be all over. He looked at me and said make a plan of your target companies and go for it. in 6 months I had gotten Nike, Disney and Fila these were all a million dollar accounts. The company had never had clients like this before. Carl had told me he hired me over someone out of college because he said I had a drive and real life experience able to read people, thats why he gave me the job and he was proud and happy he did. We had record setting sales that year. He gave me confidence and taught me that sales is relationships people will buy from you not because what you sell but because they trust you. If you build the relationships your clients will be with you for years.

I thank him for giving me a chance and taking the time to train and build me up. I’m 52 and I still think about the words he said to me and it has shaped me in my career.
