We had the good fortune of connecting with Angela Thomasson and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Angela, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
Three Elle Creations came to fruition because I am a HUGE San Diego Padres fan! Being a Padres fan, there is not a lot of home decor to choose from and I wanted a wreath for my home. Instead of seeking someone out to make it for me, I decided to make it myself and see how it goes. Once I made it, i thought it was the best thing ever. Looking back now, it’s not one of my favorite works of art, however I made it and it’s a fantastic reminder of where I started out. Then the opportunity came up in January to become the co-owner of a business in La Mesa. It happened to be with the owner of one of the boutiques I had my wreaths in. We had numerous conversations about a concept, found a place that had been vacant for over a year and went with it! Now I’m co-owner of Thoughtful Creations in the heart of the La Mesa Village at 8270 La Mesa Blvd., Suite 101, with our official grand opening coming up on April 1st! Our boutique will be have over 60 handmade artisan vendors, we are selling a plethora of craft supplies, making custom items (ie: apparel, cups, signs, etc.) and teaching classes all under one roof! I’m super excited about this opportunity!
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
In my industry, it’s easy to be a carbon copy of what others make. I pride myself on being different. Trying to think way outside of the box. Most of my best work comes from having an idea and then running with it! That’s how the tag line for my business, “Making Creative Visions A Reality,” was born This journey I’m on hasn’t been easy. There have been quite a few bumps in the road. I’ve overcome these obstacles with the help of my husband, other crafters I’ve met through Facebook and Instagram and my family. I’ve learned that perseverance pays off! You can start a business, but it takes a lot of hard work to keep it going and I’m not a quitter. I want the world to know that I absolutely love what I do and it’s awesome that I get to do what I love for a living. Three Elle Creations was born when my friend came up with the concept to use my favorite saying, Live, Laugh, Love. There are 3 L’s in Live, Laugh, Love, so my business name became Three Elle.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Now that I’m a business owner in La Mesa, I’ve been able to appreciate the uniqueness that comes with it so much more. I’ve embraced all the places they have for dine in or carry out. With that said, I would definitely take my out-of-town visitors to walk up and down the street, see all the shops and have a meal, as well. San Diego is full of so much beauty and all kinds of things to do. Petco Park would also be another spot to take my visitors. Definitely some Filippis pizza too!!! I can be a spur of the moment type of person. Not everything would be planned. Part of the fun is figuring it out and winging it!
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I want to give a shout-out to my husband, Roy! Without his unlimited love and support, my businesses wouldn’t be possible. He’s so supportive and encourages me to follow my heart. Then there are my parents and my children who help me with my businesses. My parents have helped me with both businesses. My daughter has come to the boutique and helped me. My son and daughter-in-law have worked remotely from Florida (where they are stationed) and it’s been a huge help! I’m so lucky and blessed to have such a huge support system.
