We had the good fortune of connecting with Angela, Flora, & Jasmine The Graze Collective and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Angela, Flora, & Jasmine, let’s talk legacy – what do you want yours to be?
Because we are moms, we want our kids (aka our legacy) to remember that success doesn’t come without hard work and that success isn’t just one path, that it is theirs to build. We built The Graze Collective based on our belief in the power of connection, particularly through food and sharing an experience together. We strive to ensure that our clients and their guests experience something magical when we bring our charcuterie bar to their event.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
We are three moms from different backgrounds and that’s what sets us apart from others. Jasmine is a stay-at-home mother raising three kids and managing a household. She is able to hold down the fort for our team during the busy weekdays. Flora is a HR Director in the life sciences industry and a mother of two. And Angela is an HR Executive for an outsourced HR company and is also a mother of two.

The biggest challenge for us has been managing our full-time jobs while building The Graze Collective. There isn’t enough time in a day to do all the things we want to do in order to build and scale. There have been times where we’ve worked 8am – 5pm and then again from 6pm – midnight and more on the weekends. Because we don’t have any employees, other than ourselves being the owners, we’ve had to sacrifice time with our families, vacations, “me-time”, etc, to build and support our growing small business. It’s not easy, but because we have the support of our families, especially our wonderful husbands who hold down the home-front while we’re away, we feel unstoppable!

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Such a fun question because San Diego is a tourist destination and we get asked this by visiting friends all the time. For a week long trip, would definitely want to do a blend of beach vibes, lots of food, nightlife, nature and of course, culture!

Beach Vibes & Nature: La Jolla Cove to watch the sea lions and stroll the tide pools, surf (or watch the surfers) at Swami’s, paddleboard or bike around in Mission Bay, play beach volley ball or suntan in Pacific Beach or Ocean Beach. Maybe some hiking at Torrey Pines and the slot canyon at Annie’s canyon. Check out Coronado Beach.

Food: This is the hardest one! Definitely need to have Breakfast or Brunch at Morning Glory as well as the buffet brunch at Tom Ham’s Lighthouse. Lunch needs to be tacos or burritos! So would recommend going to Tacos el Gordo, Las Cuatro Milpas, or Taco Stand. Dinner at George’s at the Cove (but eat outside on the terrace!), Steak 48 or Born and Raised, Herb and Wood, and Glassbox.

Nightlife: My favorite! Need to check out some speakeasys like Raised by Wolves (but eat first, there’s no food here) and Realm of the 52 Remedies. Bars/Lounges like Polite Provisions, Youngblood, Part-time Lover. Or even a rooftop bar/lounge like Altitude, Kettner Exchange, Rustic Root, or The Nolen. Then of course, a nightclub – Oxford Social Club…hands down the best.

Culture: Definitely Balboa Park, catch a Padres game if possible, Chicano Park, stroll around North Park or Southpark, even Old Town!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
We are a business built by women and inspired by women. So our shoutout goes to the generations of women who paved the way for us. Our grandmothers, mothers, aunties, and mentors, who taught us grit, passion, and the power of community. The Graze Collective is more than just a business, it’s a tribute to the women who taught us to dream big and build boldly.
