Meet ANGELA CHOLMONDELEY | Visual Artist

We had the good fortune of connecting with ANGELA CHOLMONDELEY and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi ANGELA, what is the most important factor behind your success?
Well, I can’t narrow it down to one factor, it takes so many. My community, my family, faith, risk and gratitude. Those are the main factors that immediately come up for me. They are my foundation for me to be to a vessel to create. I am honored and blessed to say that I have a very supportive and loving community of friends and family that are both in my field and outside of it. They have challenged me, help me grow and pour into me when I can’t see it in myself. Shoutout to God, my heads and my ancestors for always keeping me and my mom’s prayers.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
My art lies in a variety forms I’m blessed to experience. When it comes to photography, it’s a very polyamorous relationship. It’s a mix of documentary, landscape, street style, fashion, brutalism and collage. A lot of black and white, a lot like Napoleon Dynamite where is feels vintage and modern at the same time, not really sure what year it is. Thats my goal for a lot of my work, I think thats thing that helps set it apart from other artist. I’m most proud of the fact that I keep going…I might be down for a little bit but I don’t stay down for too long, I keep going. I keep trying…. doing ( my mom and Grandma JB always remind me of that)
How I got to where I am today…I don’t know how to answer it…lol…. I guess…working my ass off and people giving me a chance. I just kept trying different things… Just going out and shooting…. working with my friends a lot. I also did a lot of internships and I worked in a couple of studios. It really helped me not only learn a lot but also build relationships with photographers in my field. I’m really grateful to be able to work and learn from some amazing photographers a few of which I call friends outside of it. It’s such a beautiful thing
It was not easy and at times … still isn’t, just the ebb and flow of life I learned to appreciate. My last jobs were in coffee and coat check while doing photography …..so the fact that as an artist, I don’t have to juggle in the same way…let’s just say I can’t complain….
As for how I overcome challenges, i’m still working on that process…it’s a constant practice ….prayer, meditation, breathing and my community. My routine isn’t always the best with it but these are the things I know I can lean on for support when i’m struggling.
Some lessons i’ve learned a long the way and i’m still continue to learn is how far faith can go and how much peace it brings. Also shoutout to The Alchemist, Everything you need, you already have!

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Shoutout to God, my heads, my ancestors. Thank you!. Thank you to my family for allowing me to be me and accepting me for who I am. I will never be able to thank you enough. Like I said, my mom has been praying for me before I even landed on this planet. I love you Mom, thank you for always keeping me and covering me. I am a mere reflection of you. I am who I am because of my parents and I hope to continue to make you guys proud! My twin bro Walter…love you bro! The Grandma’s (Synead and JB, Thanks for always having my back like chiroprac! Love y’all forever and always). Shoutout to the photographers who took me under their wings ….I’ve learned so much and continue too, thank you!
