We had the good fortune of connecting with Andy Yong and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Andy, can you tell us more about your background and the role it’s played in shaping who you are today?
I’m Singapore born and raised, where the education system is intense and expectations are high. While that structure taught me discipline, I’ve always had a rebellious streak — I questioned rules, looked for loopholes, and wanted to see what would happen if I did things differently. That mindset naturally led me to content creation. It’s one of the rare spaces where the playing field is level — your work speaks for itself, and it’s judged by a global audience. If it connects, it connects.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I teach people how to take better photos. On Instagram and TikTok, I share short-form videos that breaks down niche concepts into simple, everyday tips anyone can use to make their moments and albums look even better.

What started as a mission for helping people capture life better grew into a community of over 4 million followers across platforms. That growth created a demand for my methods, which naturally led me to coaching other creators and business owners on how to achieve viral success themselves.

Since then, my students have amassed hundreds of millions of views across niches — proof that there’s a repeatable formula behind creating content that can be mapped out. My work isn’t just about photos; it’s about giving people the tools and confidence to share their stories in a way that gets noticed.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Marina Bay is an obvious choice but a must. Whether it’s a walk, jog or skate… it’s photogenic at any angle. Afterwards we’ll catch the light show at Supertree Grove and head to Newton food center for local food.

For the rest of the week, probably take it easy and visit these places in no particular order:

1. A rooftop cafe/bar like 1-Atico for the panoramic views and watching the sunset

2. Lazarus Island because we all need some nature to detox

3. NOMADS where I can bring my dog along and ambience & food are great

4. Coast to Coast Trail if we’re feeling adventurous

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Essentialism by Greg McKeown changed the way I work. I read it two years ago, at a point in my career when I had a lot of open doors and was tempted to walk through all of them. That book saved me from spreading myself too thin and giving half-effort to too many things. Adopting an essentialist mindset helped streamline my workflow so I could give 100% to what actually matters. In the content space, a cluttered mind leads to half-baked ideas — so I guard my mental bandwidth and stay intentional about what I commit to. It guarantees quality, and it’s surprisingly freeing.
