Meet Andrea Bogarin-Ackerman | Artist, Art Teacher & Accountant

We had the good fortune of connecting with Andrea Bogarin-Ackerman and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Andrea, can you share a quote or affirmation with us?
One of my favorite quotes is from Picasso: “Every child is an artist. The problem is how to remain an artist once we grow up.” In my experience, this is truly the case. We all have an artist inside, but once we get busy with life, we don’t nurture our artistic side because we fail to realize that there are many benefits that art can provide in our lives. Picasso’s quote became one of the reasons I ended up pursuing a career as an artist, even after I was already working in the business world as an accountant. Working on art helps me every day, especially during those days with many business meetings and accounting work. I really enjoy creating, mixing colors, escaping a little bit from the daily routine, and sharing that amazing feeling with those around me. For this reason, I always kept painting as a hobby, but eventually it became a career as I now sell custom paintings commissioned by clients and interior design stores. Additionally, I ended up opening a space where anyone could come to paint their own artwork, with no experience necessary, so they can get in touch with that artist we all have inside. And that is how my art business named Paint & Wine was born in 2017 and through which more than 1,000 people have been able to enjoy a night of painting and relaxation.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I think what sets me apart from the others is the duality between art and business accounting has been my biggest differentiator. Meaning that even though they are very contrasting industries, I have the advantage that I can complement them both ways. However, the process hasn’t been easy, we always hear to follow our passion, but I learned from my therapist to not only follow our passion, but to go where we find purpose. And that is how I got to where I am today, by doing what I love (passion), doing what I am good at (abilities), doing something that can be paid (interests) and doing something that the world needs (values).
From my experience I can tell that it’s okay if we want to work in different areas, we can have different purposes in our lives and that is totally fine, there is no reason to just follow one, life is short, and we should always do something we have the passion, abilities, interest and values for it.
