We had the good fortune of connecting with Analise Kramer and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Analise, have there been any changes in how you think about work-life balance?
Work life balance is definitely something I am still learning how to manage. From becoming a first time mom last year, the mom life and starting my own business at the same time was a lesson well learned. For example, I have limited how many sessions I take per week. I went from taking roughly 8 sessions per week now to 3-4 now trying to work every other weekend instead of working every weekend, and making sure I have accountbility to hold me to my new “schedule”. It’s so important for me to be present in life especially since I have a little one who is growing up so fast. To quote Aerosmith “I don’t want to miss a thing” with him.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I’ve been doing photography since I was a junior in high school (circa 2011) – so for about 12 years. It was always a hobby until last year that I started to go full force and start a business.

I got to where I am today because not only out of the constant support and encouragement I receive from friends and family, but also investing in education behind this art. I have taken some online classes, I have had people graciously offer the pouring of knowledge and being available to help me, and also networking and really putting myself out there getting to know other photographers by attending styled shoots.

Having a professional community is pretty amazing I must say. Getting here has not been easy and I have found myself get very discouraged at times where it would just be easier to quit. I wouldn’t say it’s something someone overcomes overnight, however, to help me overcome the discouragement and “imposter syndrome” I make sure I surround myself with a community that is going to hold me accountable to making sure I don’t listen to the negative thoughts.

A lesson that I have learned being in this industry would be to have the “community over competition” mindset. I want to work with people not compete against them. Unfortunately, and I am just going to be real, there is a lot of competition within this industry. That’s why again I say finding a community of others who share this commonality is extremely important. You want to surround yourself with the “good energy” and genuine people and be open to helping each other.

Another lesson I am currently actively learning is showing myself grace. I’m human. Mistakes will be made and those will be opportunities for growth. I have a lot to learn still about how to grow my business and how to perfect my art so I am providing the best possible experience for my clients. So grace upon grace upon grace.

I want the world to know that Honey in the Rock Photography is a brand that is so much more than producing photos. It’s a brand God has given me to use to be a reflection of His light and His goodness. To bring encouragement to those I am able to connect with and remind them, God will use and provide in the most unexpected areas for you.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
We would most definitely have to hit up a couple of Dodger games while my bff is town, duh! From beers to dodger dogs, I think we would be set for a couple days! LOL.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I want to give a shoutout to my mom and grandma. Without their constant endless help in taking care of my baby boy, I would not be able to invest the time I am able to into my photography business. So thank you Mom and Gram, I love and appreciate you! To my clients, you guys really are so encouraging and I appreciate not only your business but YOU. Being able to make true connections makes everything so worthwhile. And of course, God. He’s opened doors and brought me opportunities within photography that I never thought I would have.
