We had the good fortune of connecting with Amaya J and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Amaya, how do you think about risk?
I believe that everything we do in life is a risk. Playing it safe is a risk just like following a different path is a risk. I’ve always said ” If I’m going to bet on anything it’s going to be myself.” My entire life/career after high school has been a risk or a “step on faith” with me moving to Los Angeles to pursue entertainment. Not everyone has what it takes to believe in their plan A to actually follow it. I believe that Eddie Murphy said it best when he said ‘ if you have a plan b you’re actually setting yourself up for plan A to fail.’ If no one ever took a chance on themselves we wouldn’t have any of the legends that exist in the world today. So in short take the risk it takes to get to where to want to be.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I am an actress. I’ve been apart of numerous short films and as of recently stage plays in Los Angeles. I believe what sets me apart from other actors is my faith in God and my tenacity. Christ is my foundation and when you are grounded in him it makes the pressures and set backs a lot lighter because I believe he’s guiding my path. I’m very excited to be apart of the stage musical of “The Little mermaid” happening at ” The Cupcake Theater” because we have been having sold out shows since we opened so we have added more dates. I’m also really excited to be starting my first “swing” job for the musical “RENT”(A swing is a versatile performer who understudies multiple roles in order to step in when a main character is out for a show). It was not easy getting to where I am today but honestly I’ve barely even touched the iceberg of what I wish to achieve in my career. This is truly the beginning. I’m learning to be thankful for where I am and not to compare my journey to anyone else. When you take your eyes off of your race you’ll end up losing. I’m also learning to celebrate your small accomplishments just like the big ones because its putting you one step closer to your end goal. I want the world to know that with Christ nothing is impossible and he’s only just begun in my life.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I would start the day off at the best restaurant in LA “Solar De Cahuenga” for a peanut butter blast smoothie or a hand crafted caesar salad wrap with grilled potatoes. Then we would hit the Culver City stairs for a mid day workout. Then we would have to go shopping at the Americana in Glendale just to end up at the best pastry cafe “Portos” for all the hazelnut cookies you can buy, Lastly, we would jump on the highway to end up at my favorite roller rink “Epic Rollertainment” to cap off the night.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
There are so many people I want to thank for playing a part in my story. I want to thank everyone who believes in me. All the people who have prayed for me and given me words of encouragement when I’ve felt like nothing was happening in my career. My family for always being my strong support system and loving me through it all. I would like to thank my high school music performance teacher Dr.Woodiel for pushing me out of my shyness and believing I could always accomplish so much in the industry, Most importantly, I wanna thank God for putting all of the dreams and desires in my heart and leading me on my path because I trust in him.
