Meet Amari Jade | Artist

We had the good fortune of connecting with Amari Jade and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Amari, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
The start of my business came pretty suddenly when I ended up unexpectedly leaving my job as an inventory manager at a dispensary. It’s always been my goal to become an entrepreneur so once the door closed on being a full time employee, I knew it was time to take that leap of faith. To be completely candid, I had no prior knowledge of what it takes to own a business – especially as an artist, it doesn’t have the same template as trying to climb the corporate latter or obtain a brick and mortar store. So I started doing my research, reaching out to other freelance artists for help and just continued to get my name out there.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Art can be so complex sometimes. So to keep it simple: when I’m feeling creative but don’t have anything to say: I’ll draw zentangle patterns. When I know exactly what I want to say: I’ll make an illustration to portray a specific narrative. And I enjoy painting simply because it’s therapeutic and fun. A lot of my work is kept black and white because I believe these colors are strong and compelling enough to hold their own. My influences range from song lyrics, to psychedelic art, to the images & messages I receive from the divine channel in my meditations – anything that will inspire me to create a manifesto for a mindfuck.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I’d probably start with dinner at Silverlake Ramen then conclude the first night hanging out at an inspiring view of the city in Hollywood Hills. The next day I’d burn off some of that adrenaline of visiting an exciting new city by taking my company on a hike in Malibu. A great excuse to ride the PCH and take in the breathtaking scenery of the coastline. I’d follow up the hike with a quick/healthy bite at Tender Greens and a nap before night life begins! Once the evening hits I’d take them art hopping through gallery opening receptions then end the night with drinks at 1010 Wine in Inglewood. I know everyone loves to hate tourists but it’s so much fun taking in the city for the first time! And there’s no better place to be a tourist than on Hollywood & Highland! After those first couple days full of high energy, it’d be best to slow down the pace at the botanical oasis of Descanso Gardens in Pasadena. I’d love to conclude the last days of their trip by visiting the Palisades for a great view of the ocean, riding bikes on Venice Boardwalk and stopping by Hive Gallery & Studios in DTLA!

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I wouldn’t be able to pursue my art full time if it wasn’t for the unconditional love and support from my mother and sister. It’s one thing to believe in yourself but, the support from the people closest to you can take you so much farther. Sometimes you need to see things to believe it, and seeing Justin Lennox Williams as a prosperous, young freelance artist put things into perspective of who I want to be. He’s forever my inspiration and I’m so grateful to have him to look up to.
