We had the good fortune of connecting with Alma Sanchez and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Alma, how has your perspective on work-life balance evolved over time?
Work life- harmony One of the biggest challenges women entrepreneurs face is that we are still heavily expected to play a large part in handling a household. And because owning businesses means long hours, that work life balance can become a problem if not managed strategically. I like to say balancing work and life is something I’ve learned to do well, but of course my family might not agree (Ha Ha). Balancing time is very valuable, specially when you don’t have a lot of it. Yes, being in business has changed the way I assess time. Knowing your priorities and eliminating distractions will help keep you stayed focused and productive.

What should our readers know about your business?
I am the founder of ADUz LLC. We help homeowners and investors build multigenerational wealth through permitting and building additional dwelling units. Of course what sets me apart from others in my industry is that I am a woman in an industry where women make up 10.8% of the total workforce. Additionally I am the Co-Founder of The Rock Remodels Inc. a construction Company that was established in 2015. This business was the stepping stone I needed to help me learn more about all the ins and outs of Construction and design.
It wasn’t easy but I was 1 of 6 children raised by a single mom who came to this country in 1978 with no education and only the clothes on her back. My mother’s story impacted the way I saw things and it made me very resistant.
Life is a journey filled with ups and downs. The failures we face are lessons to be learned that will help us become better human beings. I want to help homeowners create wealth one project at a time and build a relationship with them once the project has been completed. We put people first.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
If my girl was visiting SD and we only had one week this is where we would go: Day 1 Breakfast at Yellow Deli in Vista. They have the best organic clean food.
We would spend the day at moonlight beach and then head back to Vigilucci’s in Carlsbad for Dinner.
Day 2 Breakfast at Los Panchos in Escondido they have the best Menudo & margaritas in Town. We’d head to the safari Zoo all day and then finish off our day at Mikkos Sushi and Gelato in Escondido.
Day 3 Breakfast at Cafe Toppes and spend the day in Carlsbad Village window shopping and of course grab a smoothie at Choice Juicery.
Day 4 Head to downtown SD watch a game at petco park, have dinner at Landinis Pizzeria in Little Italy.
Day 5 Head to Balboa Park, eat at the Prado and finish the day at SD zoo.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
We were not created to do life alone, it takes a village for sure. I want to recognize my husband Dave for believing in me when I didn’t and supporting me throughout the most difficult times. My children Zozo, Ellie and David they are my why and the fuel to my success. I am blessed to have a group of women in my church leadership community that have shown me love and encouragement throughout the 12 years I’ve been part of this non profit. I will forever be grateful of their compassion and for believing in me.
