Meet Alexis Medall | Bohemian Clothing + Jewelry Designer

We had the good fortune of connecting with Alexis Medall and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Alexis, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
I wanted to work for myself and create my own schedule. I began my business in 2022 with my grandma after getting divorced and turned to what always made me feel good growing up which was clothing. My intention was to create a line that was not only cute but comfy.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
AJ and Company currently offers women’s clothing that’s made in India and unisex jewelry that my grandma Connie creates.
With the intention to uplift your mental health we highlight body inclusivity, effortless cute and comfy fashion, and easy to travel with. Each item will be fully adjustable or stretchy allowing for a wide range of heights and body sizes to feel confident in their own bodies! In addition to spreading love through our interactions and clothes, our huge hearts give back to ocean conservation and supporting women and children with local food bank donations.
I am most proud of myself for having the courage to restart my career, overcoming childhood body shame, setting boundaries to be me and showing up when it’s one of those darker days. I’ve learned the more authentic I can be (which means showing and telling people how I TRULY am feeling that day) allows me to connect deeper with others who are secretly struggling too and allow an outlet for them to feel heard! My brand is a representation to love yourself no matter what state you’re in mentally or physically. Reminding you that your mental health matters and you’re never alone.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
We are going to spend as much time outside checking out Windandsea beach in La Jolla and surrounding areas, bringing the E bikes out too! Then grab some food at Elixir de la luna which is my favorite sustainable, vegan and gluten free cafe! They have phenomenal date bars, their wraps, and smoothies are all so incredible! We would enjoy the simple beauty San Diego has to offer by also exploring: Kate sessions & Sunset Cliffs for sunset, Balboa Park, local pop up markets, and Fiesta Island to watch all the happy dogs play in the flowers! I always adventure with a backpack full of oracle card decks, books, journal and my schedule. Lots of tacos and picnics will be involved with these adventures.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Shout out to my grandma Connie, or “grandma Shopping” as we called her growing up! I am grateful for her encouragement while pushing to keep moving through life’s difficulties.
