Meet Alexandra Eldridge | Artist

We had the good fortune of connecting with Alexandra Eldridge and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Alexandra, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
Very little thought had to go into the making of my business and life. I have done art related jobs (ie. faux finish and murals) before making my art business of painting full time, 20 yrs ago.
A wonderful opportunity to create a tarot deck of 78 cards, The Radiant Tarot, with my collaborator Tony Barnstone, writer of the guidebook, resulted in it’s publication this past year. As an artist, one does not follow a straight and narrow path. The Muse takes you on journeys you never may have suspected.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I am a painter of my dreaming life. I paint for revelation. My work is in the visionary tradition that deals with the imaginative reality of the inner world of feeling and idea. I was fortunate to be raised by artist parents. Watching their discipline and passion for creating their own vision (wrote and illustrated 27 children’s books, portraits, paintings) and being able to send all 7 of us to college gave me the knowledge that one can succeed as an artist.
I started an artist community with my ex-husband, based on the ideas of the English poet and painter, Wm. Blake. Here I came to know that the creative process could give me the possibility of a spiritual path. “Art is a conversing with Eternity.” Wm. Blake
Through the act of painting, my power to access the Imagination, the archetypal realms, had become the essence of my work as an artist.
I have been fortunate that the symbolic, archetypal language I have developed has led to over 40 solo shows. Paris, London, Belgrade, New York, California, and many other cities have hosted my work. This exposure has also led to
over 30 book covers, murals in the Place des Voges in Paris, being featured in many publications of note. Wm Hurt, Steve Buscemi, and Edie Falco are a few on my collectors.
This success has been hard won. I was a single parent and spent years doing faux finish work while I was raising my boys. I would paint every evening after the children went to bed. I had a fierce desire to keep my vision alive. Art remains my daily practice and demands constant attention and discipline.
My latest accomplishment has been the publication of The Radiant Tarot. I created a tarot deck of 78 cards. Animal, plant, and mineral kingdoms are celebrated throughout. The symbolic, archetypal nature of the tarot cards was a natural for me.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Harry and Wende Devlin were artists and writers and my parents. I was able to watch the utter dedication they give to their profession. My father began as a very successful illustrator and when photography took over that field my parents created a nationally syndicated comic strip and wrote and illustrated 27 children’s books. They also painted portraits and wrote and illustrated books on architecture. They changed with the times and demands in order to keep their lives as artists vital and successful!
