We had the good fortune of connecting with Alexander Roman and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Alexander, what do you attribute your success to?
The most important factor behind our success has been staying true to who we are—both musically and personally. We don’t chase trends or try to fit into someone else’s mold. Instead, we focus on writing songs that feel honest to us and creating an energy that connects with people in real time. Our band is built on collaboration, grit, and a DIY spirit that keeps us grounded. Whether it’s playing a packed venue or a small dive bar, we bring the same passion, and that authenticity is what people respond to. At the end of the day, the real success comes from the community that forms around the music—we feed off that, and it keeps pushing us forward.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Getting to where we are today has been anything but easy, but it’s been real. We started out in Ocean Beach, right in the heart of San Diego’s surf-and-sand energy, playing wherever we could and working through different lineups until the sound and chemistry clicked. Every challenge—from finding the right people to keeping momentum alive—taught us how to adapt and push forward.

The biggest lesson we’ve learned is that nothing happens overnight. San Diego has an incredible music scene, but it’s also spread out and competitive, so you have to show up, support others, and keep grinding. What’s kept us going is our commitment to collaboration and making music that feels alive—whether that means experimenting with new sounds, pulling from different influences, or just feeding off the vibe of the crowd.

At the end of the day, we want people to know that our band is rooted in San Diego’s spirit: laid-back but hungry, sun-soaked but still gritty. Ocean Beach gave us our start, and the community here keeps us inspired. Our story is one of persistence, collaboration, and always striving to create something real for the people who come to shows and share in the music.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
San Diego’s got such a good mix of spots, it’s hard to pick just a few. Luigi’s in Ocean Beach is always a go-to for a quick slice, and North Park Friendly is one of our favorite hangs. We spend a lot of time digging through records at the local shops around the city, and for late-night eats you can’t beat a Colima’s burrito in North Park. We also love the bar scenes in Ocean Beach, Normal Heights, and North Park—each neighborhood has its own vibe, but they all feel like home in different ways.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Casbah, Tower Bar, Kensington Club, 91X Tim Pyles, Soda Bar, Winstons, all the venues that let us rock thank you!
