We had the good fortune of connecting with Alexa Penberthy and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Alexa, what led you to pursuing a creative path professionally?
Purely by chance! When my (now) husband Matt gave me a ‘project’ to take the camera, go out and capture ‘life’ around our neighbourhood while he was on a trip. At this point it became more than just a project, it grew into something new and exiting for me.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Hi, I’m a destination wedding photographer. My photography journey started in 2011 (wow, how has it been over a decade already?) when Matt (now my husband) gave me a ‘project’ to take the camera, go out and capture ‘life’ around our neighbourhood while he was on a trip. At this point it became more than just a project, it grew into something new and exiting for me so I started to shadow him on most of his weddings for 2 years and initially learned everything from him. He has been my teacher but my eye for detail and creative approach did the rest.
I think what sets me apart from others is that I don’t go with the ‘trend’, my documentary and romantic style aproach has been solid from the get go as well as my edit. The most asked question I get is how I ended up shooting destination weddings and it’s because I have done a lot of ‘financial investment’ if you can call it that shooting friend’s weddings abroad for free at the beginning then started promoting just that and enquiries started flowing in from all over the world.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I think with my current family situation having a new born and a toddler it would be a lot local cafes and pubs (I live in London after all) and ofcourse you can’t come to London and not check out all the major landmarks this city has to offer. Drinks at the top of Salesforce Tower, classic Nandos for some chicken, a nice local pub for that sunday roast, picnic in Hyde Park etc

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My husband Matt
