We had the good fortune of connecting with Alex Gobler and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Alex, is there something that you feel is most responsible for your success?
Listening is far and away the most important factor behind any success I have achieved. People are smart and they want to see value in the things they buy. My job as a business owner is to listen to my customers, identify their needs, and then sell to that. I make a conscious effort to actively listen during every initial encounter with a customer. More often than not the job sells itself because the customer feels truly heard.

What should our readers know about your business?
I have several endeavors currently, but Screensavers San Diego is my primary focus. I repair and replace window and door screens, but what I do is so much more than that. I am a creative naturally, so every screen I work on I consider to be a piece of art. There are other local screen businesses, but I make sure to put my heart and soul into the handiwork that I do, and also into the relationships with my customers. I grew up in San Diego and know every inch of this county. But I honestly didn’t feel like I was a part of this community until I was a stay-at-home dad and started to incorporate the City of Carlsbad community centers and activities into my parenting routine on a daily basis. It was a goal of mine when I started this business to leave a positive and unique mark on the north county San Diego community, both through my actions and words. A workday for me doesn’t pass without what I call a “heart touch” moment in which a real human connection is made with a customer. I pride myself on making those special connections. It’s not only good for my business; it’s good for my soul.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Because I have lived in San Diego almost my entire life, I am quite familiar with its many unique attractions. We would definitely have to visit Old Towne San Diego and have lunch at Casa Guadalajara Restaurant. I would recommend the Carne Asada Tampiquena with a large mango margarita. On day two, we would take the Splash n’ Seal ride, which is a bus that turns into a boat and sails into the open ocean and visits a location where sea lions play and sun themselves. Day three would have to be a visit to the Hotel Del Coronado. We could have a coffee in their outdoor eating area and walk along those white, sandy beaches. On day four, we would visit the San Diego Zoo and then head over to Balboa Park to visit the train museum, then dinner at the Prado Restaurant. Day five would be a visit to the Frazee Beach in Carlsbad ending with dinner at Campfire Restaurant.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I was a stay-at-home dad for seven years, which was both challenging and rewarding. I cherished every day that I was with each of my three daughters. They have been the inspiration for my starting a new business because I want to not only financially support them, but create a legacy based on my skills and passion that they can inherit and be proud of.
