We had the good fortune of connecting with Alejandro Camacho and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Alejandro, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
As humans, we’re filled with ideas with countless ideas. Each holding the potential to change the world. Yet, only a few dare to turn these ideas into a reality. Before my journey even started I was scared, Negative thoughts governed my mind, I only thought about what could go wrong, but I knew I had to make a choice. It was either face the challenges that came my way, while pursuing my passion. Or, face challenges without pursuing my passion. The answer was simple if I’m going to suffer and face obstacles it might as well be doing something I love. Despite my love for Soccer and Sports Performance, I lacked early guidance on optimizing athletic performance. It wasn’t until my college soccer days where I began to learn and understand that an athlete’s performance can be improved. From that moment on, I resolved to immerse myself in sports performance education. Driven by the desire to give people tools that I never had when I was younger. Little by little I began to understand why an athlete moves the way they move, and how to develop specific programs to help them develop their desired outcomes. I owe immense gratitude to my mentors, to everyone that has seen potential in me and has trusted me with my training. And above all, to my family whose unwavering support has been the cornerstone of my pursuit.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
The sports performance business is a very competitive area. However, I am not here to compete with other coaches, I’m here to compete with myself. Pushing myself to become a better coach each day. That is my philosophy, the more i learn, the better my athletes become. I can’t stop learning, I should always question everything I do. Now, I’ve understood that I am impacting someone’s life with what I do. It is important to try to develop a successful athlete, but I also want to develop a successful human being. Why? Because sports aren’t everything. Eventually, these athletes will have to face life. Not everyone will make it to the big leagues. Harsh, but it’s the truth. Therefore, I want all my athletes to have tools that will help them navigate through their life journey. This is more than sports performance, this is me trying to send my message to the world. Life is challenging. Life is filled with failure & uncertainty. But when you find your purpose in life I can promise you that everything changes. You get excited when you fail because you know you’re getting closer to your goals. And trust me it is not all sunshine and rainbows. There have been so many times that I’ve wanted to quit, leave it all behind and find something else to do with my life because people don’t see the sacrifices one has had to make. It’s true when they say success is a very lonely road, but I kept moving forward, I kept showing up. And little by little success started knocking on my door. And believe me when I say that one little moment of success, makes all the difficult moments worth it. So whatever it is that you want in life, please chase it. Live a life that has meaning, gamble with life. If you lose, get back up and find a new way to succeed. Believe in yourself and move with purpose!
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
If my best friend came for a week long trip the first place we would go to for breakfast is Swami’s Cafe in North Park. Places we would visit would be beaches (obviously), balboa park, seaport village. Would try to catch a padres game or wave game. For food, City Tacos of course, best tacos in San Diego! And Siamo Napoli, best Italian food in San Diego! After food, I love going to coffee shops! I’m a chai type of guy and the best one i’ve had is the one from Better Buzzed (yes I’m basic)! Now, time for the fun stuff, drinks! I’m a big fan of breweries, rooftop bars, or speakeasy’s. I mean I am blessed to live in San Diego, there are so many fun things to do and fun places to visit!
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
It is really hard to just name one person because my journey has been impacted by more than one. This shoutout goes out to everyone that has supported me and believed in my message. From Coach B, the amazing staff at City College, Xolos, and many more. However, there is no bigger shout out than my parents. They are the ones that deserve all the glory, they are my number one motivation and without them, I would not be where I am today. Thank you all for impacting my life in such a great way!
