We had the good fortune of connecting with Alecia Ashcraft and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Alecia, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking
I feel the rewards are always greater when you are taken. When I decided to go full-time with Photography I had been running a large family childcare for the past 16 years very successfully and it was a sense of security and comfort. Giving that up to go full-time with Photography was a giant risk but I’m definitely glad I I took it. I’m not one who’s afraid to fail I’m always willing to take a risk if I feel like I can succeed

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I am passionate about child photogrpahy. I was inspired as a young girl by Anne Gedses. I just loved her creative approach to babies and children. But my ultimate love for photography is Christmas photogrpahy! My passion for a magical touch and a playful and candid expression in a child, and a production style approach to my sessions, sets me apart from others in my industry.

It took me quite a while to learn studio lighting and how to revolve my outdoor, lifestyle approach I had before to a studio where I had to create the scene. Luckily for me having so many kids and having that daycare gave me tons of practice opportunities and lots of models.

I’ve learned many lesions over the years, but the most important is to stay true to my passion and my vision, and that it would be ridiculous to ever think I can please every single customer that comes through my door., but you can always take something from an unhappy customer to improve the experience for the next customer.

I want the world to see my passion for Christmas photogrpahy! Id love to be a Christmas photographer all year long!

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Definitely Temecula Wine Country! There are so many amazing wineries, bistros, family friendly spots, hotels, villas, horseback riding, carriage rides and many amazing events.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My entire family; husband and children have always been so supportive. But my husband, Joshua, is my biggest fan, greatest supporter and actually helps me on shoots, building props, manages the business side during our busy Christmas season so I can focus on getting albums delivered, and hears our marketing and promotions. I truly could not donut without him.
