We had the good fortune of connecting with Ace Carnage and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Ace, how do you think about risk?
I wasn’t a huge risk taker, believe it or not. My whole career, however, was founded on a risk. A fluke. My brother asked me to come sing some harmonies on the album he was recording and I had never been in a studio before. I decided to leave my number with the owner in case he ever needed a singer. I’ve been engineering there for 2 years now. The opportunity stays abstract if you don’t step out of the safety net every once in awhile. Risks are why I’m successful.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I’m Ace Carnage, and I’m an engineer and music educator, but that wasn’t always my story. I am where I am now because I took a leap of faith, and a complete stranger took a chance on me. My story begins in Palmdale, CA, far before the career. I’m a transgender parent of 1, and I’m working at McDonalds on the wrong side of the tracks, and my father has just committed suicide. It all sounds kind of rags to riches, and I often have imposter syndrome. After my brother, Orion Pain of Kanserus Stait, asked me to record and I left my number with Elliot, I decided that if I got a call there was no question about what I’d be doing from then on. It felt like my dad was opening doors for me. The call came a week later, and I committed to a 2 hour commute from Palmdale to Orange full time. Some nights I slept in my car, others I’d get local motel rooms, but for a long while it was a bitter two hour commute. I knew everything about singing and nothing about engineering, but knew I was a fast learner. I dedicated 80+ hours a week and sure enough, I’m the right hand to the owner and the resident vocal coach of the studio. I’m living my dream. I look forward to new opportunities and ways to hear and hone my craft every single day. I’m taught by the best and surrounded by the best musicians 100% of the time, and I get to build a sustainable life for my baby while there.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
This is way too easy! In a week, we’d tackle Disneyland, California Adventure, Knott’s Berry Farm, K1 Speed and Camelot for fun things to do. Also in town is the best taqueria outside of Mexico, perfectly named Taqueria Mexico. If you need some vegan/clean kitchen goodies, Green Tomato Grill, Seabirds Kitchen and Luna Grill are all phenomenal as well. All beaches are accessible within 30 minutes and have incredible views and eats too!

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Literally every ounce of my success is owed to Elliot Koenig of Hear No Evil Studio. He invested in me, and now I get to build an empire for my family and follow my dream at the same time.
