A favorite quote of mine is ‘life is either an adventure or nothing at all”. I first heard this quote in one of my favorite Youtube Channels, Yes Theory, but over time I’ve noticed it everywhere I go. Once, I was paddle-boarding at Lady Bird Lake in Austin, and I even saw the quote graffitied on a wall. “If I let go of what I am I become what I might be.” Lao Tzu My nighttime ritual is studying philosophy, psychology and even quantum mechanics. I recently came across this well known Taoist quote which transformed my view of acceptance entirely. It is loss that has brought me to face the concepts of meaning and acceptance, as well as the potential of what I might be. What’s one thing about your industry that outsiders are probably unaware of? In landscape and wildlife photography, people generally don’t realize the patience it takes to get the right photograph. I recently had a photograph of a barn that I was able to capture the sun setting through the center and that was a year in the making. In general finding a place that has potential is just the start of the process, for instance getting the right weather conditions around your scene can take many attempts or just waiting on the right season that works best for the scene can take time. “I Believe in You!” When my previous husband was passing away he left me a typed page in a plastic holder. It said “To the most beautiful, most intelligent, hardest working woman in the world, love Del”. During my years as a widow, I cherished those words and it gave me strength at the hardest time of my life, when I thought I could not go on. I came to realize that what he was leaving me was the ongoing gift that he believed in me. What a treasure. As I have spent the last 12 years helping kids and parents who become victims of sex trafficking or blackmail from sending an erotic image online, I realized that what most kids need is to hear “I believe in YOU!”.
