We had the good fortune of connecting with Deborah Marin-Nikolin and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Deborah, what makes you most proud of the business you’ve built?
There are several things that make me proud of the business I’ve built. During this quarantine I have become particularly aware of that. Most of the families I serve see chiropractic care as a critical component of their health. Despite the government’s recommendations to stay home and isolate, most of my families continue to come in for regular chiropractic care so they can maintain their health and support their immune system. It is always a compliment when a practice member refers their family and friends in. But what I am most proud of is when parents hand me their newborn child to check. My most profound experience in practice was this year when one of our families came in to the office less than 24 hours after giving birth to a beautiful baby girl so they could get checked as a family and ensure proper growth and development for the new baby and proper healing and recovery for mom. At that moment I saw it all come full circle! I was proud of so many things at that moment. I was proud that my staff and myself provided a comfortable and safe environment that allows families to come in after birth. I was proud that I earned their trust and friendship for them to hand me their most precious gift. And I was proud that the family understands the importance of regular chiropractic care and a properly functioning nervous system for their family.
Please tell us more about your work. We’d love to hear what sets you apart from others, what you are most proud of or excited about.
When people think of chiropractic care most people think of back pain, neck pain and headaches. We help with those things, absolutely. But what we actually do is assess the spine to ensure there is optimal communication between the brain, spinal nerves and body. When the spine is in proper alignment the body can communicate optimally and your body can heal! That is what I focus on in my practice. With that being the focus, we are able to help sick people get well and healthy people stay well. So what is unique to my practice is when you look around at my practice you see healthy, vibrant people putting in the time and effort to stay well! We get great results. And that is because we provide individualized care. We carefully assess each and every person and the care they receive is unique to them. No two people have the same care plan. We recommend home care, supplements and other things they can do on their own to support their body and alignment. The individualized care and attention to detail is what sets us apart from other practices.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I’m going to start with food because that is how I like to organize my travel! I would have them check out Sorrento and Mona Lisa in Little Italy, tacos at Tacos el Gordo, fish tacos at Wonderland in OB, acai bowls at Brick and Bell in La Jolla, and drinks at the Hotel del Coronado Sun Deck. I would suggest they rent bikes in Coronado and cruise around the Island and take the ferry across the bay. I would recommend the Hornblower cruises around the bay and a beach day in Coronado! Those are a few of my favorite San Diego treats!
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would like to dedicate this shoutout to my family! My parents and siblings have given me so much support from the moment I decided to move across the country to attend chiropractic school. They have loved me and encouraged me through it all! I would also like to acknowledge my husband, Anthony, for always listening and understanding when I get home late from work, spend weekends at seminars and when my tornado brain starts spinning about ideas for my practice!

I would like to honor the late Dr. Jeanie Ohm in the picture on the beach. I use her teachings every day in practice when working with moms and kids.
