We had the good fortune of connecting with Rene Lopez and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Rene, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking
Taking risks is a part of life. In my opinion, you can’t be too reckless but you can’t be too cautious either. If you never take a chance on something you’ll never know what could have been. As for me, I guess I tend to take more chances than not and because of that I’ve learned a lot but also lost a lot. For example, over the last 13 years, I’ve been able to learn from some incredible artists, but on the other hand, I’ve also been through some difficult times. At the end of the day, I have no regrets. I think that risk taking is definitely a balancing act and can be rewarding in the long run.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
My art is Southern California based original San Diego influences and Lifestyles. I like Kustom car culture/ Lowrider/ motorcycles ext. That’s what my art I would say is based around. What sets me apart from others is that I am as authentic as It comes, I don’t fake the funk I am who I am and call a bird a bird. There’s a lot of try hards out in the world very few Genuine people but the ones I know to be Genuine are some really good people. Well it’s a long story how I got to where I am I honestly don’t feel like I have gotten as far as I’ve wanted to, but I started tattooing and Pinstripeing at around 2009. It definitely was not easy it still isn’t easy and I wouldn’t change it for the world. The only way to over come is to never give up on you passions and dreams but to have a plan. I don’t think anyone plans to fail but they fail to plan ya know. You must always stay true and respectful. I would like to travel the world more tattoo more and paint more till the day I die.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Well there is so many to name, some of the good places are not around anymore. I would definitely show them around Ocean Beach and Sunset Cliffs it’s my preferred beach to go to there is plenty of things to do there. As far as food, there is also Sardinas Italian Restaurant off Morena Blvd they have good food and good drinks there, Tacos el Gordo in Chula Vista you can not go wrong with that spot, Grind House in Chula Vista is a nice coffee shop to check out, Balboa Park is a nice place to hang out and the museums of course, The Living Room coffee house is nice and has been there for a long time in collage are they have good food and drinks it’s a big menu with plenty to choose from, also Waterfront in Little Italy is a good bar for food and drinks, ever since I was able to drink that place is a good place to go to. There is a ton of things to do in San Diego that’s all I can think of at the moment just to name a few.
