Meet Destiny Huntley | Cupcake designer

We had the good fortune of connecting with Destiny Huntley and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Destiny, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
When I was 10 I became obsessed with the tv show Cake boss and ever since I have enjoyed baking not just cupcakes but all sorts of pastries. However, I enjoy cupcakes the most because of the fun little details you can put into decorating. I enjoy it and I want others to enjoy the love I put into every batch so Destinyro Cupcakes was created.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I am most proud of the passion and love I put into each and every and every cupcake. I’m a bit of a perfectionist and I think it’s important that the overall quality of each cupcake important. I’m not anywhere close on where I would like to be but I think patience and consistency has gotten me where I am today. It’s been a mixture of both east and hard. Easy in the fact that I have a great support system and because of them people are able to enjoy my product and come back. Hard in that I’m hard on myself that if the cupcakes aren’t up to my standard I will redo it so sometimes I can get overwhelmed. It’s still a very new adventure for me so there has not been many lessons learned but I’m sure as time goes on I will have learned plenty.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
This is an easy question for me because I enjoy so many places here in Southern California. I would definitely want to take them to a Padres game you can never go wrong with a good old baseball game for a night out. I love experiencing new places and restaurants so I would take them to some of my favorite places which include Inside out, Breakfast and Bubbles, and spot in Little Italy it’s amazing there. I think the most fun and interesting places is definitely any little mom and pop restaurants and brunch places. I’m a huge brunch person and there are so many beautiful and delicious places here in San Diego

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I think 100% of the credit goes to Buddy Valastro from Cake Boss. He inspired me to bake and in turn has created my passion for making these delicious cupcakes.
