Meet Lesley Wirth/Copywriter

We had the good fortune of connecting with Lesley Wirth and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Lesley, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
To be honest, I never intentionally set out to start my own business, but instead fell into it when someone gave me a shot as a writer for his company. Given I had a master’s in spiritual psychology, I was able to bring a fresh perspective to difficult topics such as addiction, mental health, and eating disorders.
When that job finished, I was asked to join a writing team where we were able to drive
42 pages to the number one spot on Google.
Over time, I continued to hone my writing skills through the guidance and mentorship of an eight-figure copywriter. We discovered I had a knack for nailing a brand’s voice quickly, specifically in email campaigns.
I attribute this to being someone who cares deeply about others, and who wants to write genuine material that prioritizes the heart of the reader- even when driving sales and growth.
Ultimately, I realized that with the right blend of creativity, strategy, and empathy, I could help more businesses connect with their audiences on a deeper level.
So, while I did not go out and intentionally build a business, I love the fact that freelance writing allows me to pick the people and projects I want to work with.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Thank you for your kind words!
As for my career now, I focus on helping businesses communicate in a way that feels real and human, while also delivering results. Whether it’s through email campaigns, brand storytelling, or client-centered content, my goal is always to ensure that the end result aligns with both the brand’s mission and the audience’s needs.
I’m passionate about working with businesses that prioritize authenticity and who have a real personality.
I can honestly say that some of the most fun I’ve ever had writing was crafting email campaigns for an environmental toxin lawyer with a passion for swearing. As unconventional as it may sound, there’s something incredibly rewarding about capturing the unique nuances of someone’s personality and bringing that energy into the writing.
I feel very fortunate to do work that allows me to get to engage with so many different types of people. It keeps it interesting and fresh.
We’d love to hear what sets you apart from others, and what you are most proud of or excited about.
What sets me apart from others? I would have to say that I find connecting to people’s readers really enjoyable. They have real needs and desires. I enjoy digging into who they are deep down, and writing what they think, feel, and want to say, but maybe don’t know how to articulate.
When you put words on a page that deeply resonate with the reader it helps them on every level. This in turn inspires them to take action steps, which consequently helps the business. It’s a win for everyone.
With regard to what I am most proud of, I went through a time period where I lost pretty much everything in life, but was able to rebuild. That changes you. It makes you more compassionate and stronger simultaneously. I think that combination has helped me in my writing career as well.
How did you get to where you are today professionally? Was it easy? If not, how did you overcome the challenges?
I’ll be honest, in some ways, things have fallen into my lap. A lot of that has to do with faith. I know God has played a significant role in opening doors for me. But I also recognize that I’ve put in the work and made the most of the opportunities I’ve been given.
If there’s someone I want to collaborate with, I simply reach out directly. I know some might see that as desperate, but to me, it’s no different than spending time carefully crafting the perfect social media post in hopes of attracting clients. I just prefer to be more straightforward and intentional about it. Thankfully, as of late, business has been super full and I have not even had the time to contact new leads.
When it comes to challenges, I try to stretch myself and keep growing, even when it’s uncomfortable. One area I’m constantly working on is balancing my work boundaries. It’s a delicate dance- staying committed to my goals while also maintaining time for rest and reflection. It’s an ongoing process, but it’s all part of the journey of growth.
What are the lessons you’ve learned along the way?
One of the most important things I’ve realized is that being genuine goes a long way. There is nothing better than being around someone who is good at what they do, but they come across relaxed and, well, normal. Once a person starts overusing tech language, business lingo, and trying to demonstrate how smart they are, it quickly becomes a turn-off.
No one wants a transactional work relationship. You can be professional and still communicate like a human being.
I have also had to learn that we live in a patriarchal society. While I am fortunate to not have had to deal with too much of it, there have been times when I have been treated differently simply because I am a woman.
What do you want the world to know about you or your brand and story?”
I actually would just love to tell anyone out there who wants to break into writing to not buy into the lie that there are no jobs and you have to work for pennies. Reach out to me. I will tell you the courses to take. You absolutely can move forward and do well.
It really goes a long way to remain persistent. In the sales world they say, “It’s a numbers game.” When you first start writing, this saying can be true. Over time, you can build a solid reputation and more people will start coming to you.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week-long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I would definitely be at Stone Steps beach in Encinitas, hiking a secret trail near Elfin Forest, and devouring the food and matcha lattes at Healthy Creations.
By nature, I enjoy the simple things in life. I am much more apt to want to be outside and engaged in good conversation than attending some cool opening in the city.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So, is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would have to say Nikki Seay. She was the writing director at my first job and was a huge blessing when I got started. Nikki has an amazing ability to deal with an extremely high workload, while remaining personable and helpful. Most people have a hard time with that. She is a great example of how to straddle success with likability.
