Meet Nicole Mayer | Bridal Boutique Owner

We had the good fortune of connecting with Nicole Mayer and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Nicole, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
I have always had the desire to be a business owner and work for myself, working for others was never a long term option for me. Once I started working in bridal, it quickly became my passion and it was a no-brainer that this was the path I wanted to pursue. After having my son, I knew I had to get the ball rolling and make this dream of being a business owner a reality. He is my biggest inspiration and really drove me to start the process of opening Blushing Bride. Being a mother is extremely important to me and having flexible hours to be there for him or bring him with me if need be was a must. I am absolutely living my dream of being a mom and business owner and I am forever grateful for that!

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Weddings are a constant in an ever changing climate. To say I am obsessed with bridal would be an understatement, and working in it and being a part of it, I noticed there needed to be a change. There is a shift in our culture and a need for inclusivity, something that I felt the bridal industry was lacking in in some aspects. The way we talk about our bodies is changing. In my store, I don’t want to indulge in this old way of thinking and feeling like you have to look a certain way to wear a certain style. When a bride walks into my boutique, it is my goal to make them feel as comfortable as possible. To encourage them to wear the dress that makes them feel the most beautiful. I pride myself in being body positive and am trying to change the narrative in the industry. I recognize that I am the new kid on the block in the bridal boutique world. It definitely wasn’t easy to get to this point. I have a degree in Health Education, no where near business studies, but I took what I learned from working in the industry and mixed it with my passion, and here we are today! I have fresh eyes, I am young and I have a modern approach to bridal. I want every single one of my brides to feel special. I want each experience to be unique and tailored to that bride. I strive to be inclusive, welcoming and make each appointment a good time! I think that is what really sets me apart and sets me up for success.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
To my core, I am a homebody, but how can you not want to explore beautiful San Diego? I love taking my dog to the Del Mar dog beach, walking around Liberty Station and shopping at Fashion Valley. My family and I have Zoo passes, which is so fun. I take everyone to Harumama Noodles & Buns and Handel’s Homemade Ice Cream, both conveniently located in Carlsbad and both incredibly delicious. Last but not least, if you are in San Diego, you have to go to a Padres game. The team, the atmosphere, the stadium is all just so fun.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
It takes a village in order to achieve success and I would be no where without my family! My son has given me the inspiration to chase my dreams, my husband motivates me and my parents have raised me to never give up. Blushing Bride would never be successful without my mother, who works her regular job during the week and then on the weekends is my wing-woman at the shop. We pride ourselves on being family owned and operated. I truly couldn’t do this without them.
