We had the good fortune of connecting with Veronica Wylie and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Veronica, what led you to pursuing a creative path professionally?
Honestly, I have never wanted to do anything else. When I was little, I wanted to be an actor because I wanted to be someone else. I didn’t like who I was, and acting was a way to escape that person and escape my life, at least for a little while. As I grew up, I slowly started to learn to accept myself and then to like myself, and finally, to cherish myself. As that happened, my reason for pursuing a creative career shifted as well. I believe that we are put here to be in relationship. Whether we are Christian, Muslim, Zoroastrian, atheist, agnostic, or what-have-you, we know that humans are social creatures. Our purpose is to be in relationship with ourselves, each other, and the Earth itself. Storytelling is one of the most important ways that we as humans foster relationships; I want to tell stories that matter. That’s why I pursue a creative career.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Nothing in a creative field is easy, but it’s incredibly satisfying and totally worth it. A significant part of my journey has been to learn acceptance. I am quite an eccentric person and have very eclectic tastes. I don’t really always fit into a “type” or category, which can make it difficult in this field. I’ve grown to realize that my “brand” is “weirdo.” I’ve always been called a weirdo, my whole life. My response has become “Normal is boring.” I think the thing that I would like people to know is that it’s okay to be weird. You should be weird. If we were all the same, the world would be a very boring place. If we’re here to be in relationships, then we have to learn to accept, not only others, but also ourselves for all our individual quirks.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
My best friend and I love to visit Malibu when she visits. We both find a lot of spiritual and emotional healing at the beach. Since we’re not there just to hang out and have a good time, we do Malibu, which is less crowded than, say, Santa Monica. But we also do love to just have fun, so we also like to do Disneyland when she’s here, and no trip would be complete without Porto’s in Burbank.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I wouldn’t have achieved the success that I have without two incredibly supportive organizations: Actor Salon headed by Brian Patacca (specific shout out to my coach Britt Renschler) and Actor Resource Guru headed by Ajarae Coleman.
