Meet Jasmine Arthur | Owner of Corking Creations / Inventor of the Wine Glass Necklace

We had the good fortune of connecting with Jasmine Arthur and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Jasmine, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
I had always been told by friends and family that I should start a business, but I always thought they were crazy, and that I was terrible at sales and knew nothing about business. I always knew that I loved wine and the wine industry and that If I could find something to do that would incorporate that into my work, I would “Never work a day in my life” which was always the goal. When I came up with the idea of Wine Glass Necklaces, it was just because I wanted one and could not find one that was elegant and fashionable so I made one for myself. Immediately people started asking me to make some for them, and thats when I knew, “I have a business!”. Even though I had never started a business before, this invention of mine gave me such inspiration and drive that I just figured it out. I had a lot of great mentors along the way and had been an executive assistant for 10 years helping OTHER people run their businesses, so I knew I could do it and that passion for the wine industry has been driving me ever since.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I came from a small town in central California, never went to college and was always taught to get a good job, with benefits, and job security and climb the latter. That never resonated with me, but I followed the rules, started in fast food, then hospitality, and on to personal/executive assistant roles, and none of them ever quite made me feel “successful”, because I was always just scraping by, and working to make someone else rich.
I started going to personal growth seminars, reading self help books like “Rich Dad Poor Dad” and surrounding myself with people who I thought were successful, entrepreneurs, and asked them how they did it. I think being around people who were so driven, creative and had the life I knew I wanted, was a great learning experience, almost my own version of college.
Having those types of people around me still today are great resources for troubleshooting issues that arise in my business and ideas on how to grow. Community has always been my greatest resource

.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Well the first place I usually take people to visit when they come see me is the Santa Monica Pier and 3rd Street Promenade. Its just down the street and such an iconic landmark known around the world so that is usually my go to starting point. I usually end the day taking in the sunset at either Casa Del Mar or Shangri-la that have the 2 best views in the west side.
Then we usually hit Beverly Hills for some Botox and bubbles. Nothing gives people a more glamorous LA experience then a pedicure and aesthetic services in Beverly Hills. Another must is renting a duffy boat in Newport Marina, so relaxing and a very fun way to spend the day. While in OC I usually hit Disneyland, which really is the most magical place on earth. Even the most jaded person can release their inner child for a few hours which is really nice to watch the stress fade away from someone’s face on a fun ride.
Being that I am in the wine industry, I always know of the wine events in the area, and would look for an event being hosted to take us to. If none are around and they feel adventurous, I will take them to Temecula for some wine tasting and maybe a little Indian casino gambling.
The other must do when someone comes to town is Santa Anita Horse Races, if its in season. The vintage and well maintained architecture of Santa Anita is unrivaled and getting dressed up to bet on horses is a real treat.
Probably finish the week off by going to Burke Williams for a spa day to recover from all the activities before heading home.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
There are 2 people who really stand out in my entrepreneur story who deserve a big shout out, one being my boyfriend at the time Del San Jose, who encouraged me to quit my job and jump into my own business full time and also made me get my patents, which have proved to be my biggest asset to date in my business so he has really been a critical point of getting my growth to be where its at today. Also I met a store owner, Elementz Inc., in Downtown LA while sourcing materials for my necklaces, and his name is Sako. He really gave me the best advise and mentorship I’ve received to date, about how to refine my product, make it easier to reproduce and has also given me manufacturing support on larger orders that I could not make on my own. He has always been a great sounding board for the jewelry making side of the business and his wife Astrid as well have given me great design hacks to make my product even more refined.
