We had the good fortune of connecting with Ruth Young-Loaeza and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Ruth, how did you come up with the idea for your business?

The idea was a work of years in progress, I would say that I didn’t know exactly what I was going to do but some desire to create and to make household products better was one hidden passion of mine.

I used to clean houses for about 23 years and I would get frustrated with some products that in my opinion were obsolete. One day I suffered a car accident that left me unable to work, and consequently I end up homeless after exhausting my savings..

It was during that time that I channeled all of that energy to create drawings and prototypes of the many ideas I had while I was cleaning houses.

All what I was looking for was to keep my self busy and distracted, so I could recuperated faster. Little that I knew, I had started a new endeavor.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?

I believe that my experience sets me apart from others because it comes from the every day hard work I used to perform, while managing my cleaning business for approximately 23 years.

When I was little I wanted to be an architect, I used to love drawing, later I wanted to be a teacher… I guess that’s where I get the passion to learn how to fix whatever I can!

When I was a single mother and couldn’t afford to pay someone to fix something I would try to fix it myself first.

I am proud of the many accomplishments in my business career, I have two patents granted and a Trademark.
The United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) has featured me in their official website and E-magazine as a Budding Visionary Inventor!!!

I have won 1st place at the Association Of Women Inventors & Entrepreneurs annual competition in New York. I also, won 2nd place at the San Diego Inventors Forum, I have been a participant at the University of San Diego innovation programs, among many other amazing accolades.

The USPTO has continue featuring me in their Invention-Con Conference every year!
To me it is crazy awesome, to go from cleaning houses to become an inventor, and make it to the Headquarters of the USPTO.

Was it easy? NO, not at all, I had be homeless in order to dedicate the time to my inventive ideas, otherwise and most likely I would be cleaning houses still.

But nonetheless, I continue learning every day that the challenges I constantly face will make me or brake me, so I choose to be victorious instead of a victim.
I am aware that challenges, problems, deception, and disappointment are a part of life, so I categorize them as life vitamins that will help me and push me to be resourceful, creative, grateful, and most of all perseverant.

Out of the tragedy, chaos, pain, sadness and happiness in my life NEET SHEETS was born!!! So what is NEET SHEETS?

NEET SHEETS is patented and innovative bed linen that addresses the stressful and difficult task of making the beds.

When using NEET SHEETS the bed making time gets reduced by 47% and the mattress lifting by 75% this is according to a study conducted by a California University.
In this study it was found that the innovations of NEET SHEETS could potentially and possibly decrease workers compensation claims in the hospitality industry.

As a housekeeper throughout my cleaning career I made the beds over 20 thousand times, so I clearly identify where to incorporate the innovations that I had created.

As of today NEET SHEETS has penetrated the hospitality industry and is currently sold in hotels in the San Diego area and The Silicon Valley and Palo Alto area.

Some of the most rewarding complements I can received is when a room attendant comes to me and tells me that it truly makes his or her work less stressful.

I want NEET SHEETS to be known as a strong and elegant brand, but I want people to know that it’s story is deeper than just what they see, that the people in the hospitality industry currently using them are truly benefited by it.

NEET SHEETS was born out of need to help me heal after the car accident, but then I realized that it could help many others by making their hard work easier and faster for them .

I want people to know that I gave myself the opportunity to be curious and I found that I could be more than just a housekeeper!
I don’t want to leave this world and take with me the talents that God has given me, I humbly share!

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.

My goodness that is just so difficult to answer, I have told this to everyone I know: “San Diego is a paradise, you have the desert, the beaches, the coast, the forest, everything within minutes or no more than a few hours drive”, I love living in San Diego!

The hard time we have is deciding where to go! I love San Diego, take me anywhere, I know I’ll enjoy it..

Between you and I… I love La Jolla, but one of the reasons, is because it reminds me of Acapulco where my parents are from.

For the last 35 years I have gone and drive around La Jolla sometimes at 2/3 am and visualized myself living there, hopefully I get to move there one day soon!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?

First and foremost I want to thank Jesus my Lord and savior, for his continue protection and guidance, I cannot be where I am without God!

My parents who formed who I am, and taught me from an early age important values that in most of the cases had keeping me out of trouble.

Life, I am grateful to life for all the hard lessons that continues throwing at me and because of it, I get stronger as well. Also, for the amazing events where I continue experiencing the surprises that has for me in store every new day!!!

My family every single of them, but specially my children and grandchildren whom I love with every fiber on my being!
All of the family and friends, and even people I don’t know but continue believing in me and supporting my dreams!
I LOVE YOU ALL!

Now, the ones who have invested in my dream, my startup, my business, myself… to all of those business advisors, accelerator and incubator programs, the companies that to this day continue having me under their wing (you know who you are) to all of you I cannot be more grateful for taking a chance of investing all of what you have just to take me to the next level.

To the hotels and those GM’s, Supervisors that love what I had created and had switch to NEET SHEETS you all rock!!!

To every media outlet like you San Diego Voyager that somehow have found me and give me the privilege and opportunity to share my history with the world.

And of course to the ones that have said NO to me, the ones that has make fun of me, and the ones that have said: “no hotel will ever buy this sheets” specially to all of these people A BILLION THANKS! Because of you, I came out of my comfort zone and proof not just to you but myself that it would work!!! 😄

And to myself for when I doubt and felt I couldn’t go on, I didn’t giving up!!!
