We had the good fortune of connecting with Emilie Lawson and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Emilie, what are you inspired by?
My jewelry is inspired by the beautiful world around us. Stones have a unique way of showing us the vibrancy of our natural world. I think it is remarkable to be able to wear something that reminds us of how stunning and fragile our environment is. My hope is to ground us to this earth through the elements we wear.

Please tell us more about your work. We’d love to hear what sets you apart from others, what you are most proud of or excited about. How did you get to where you are today professionally. Was it easy? If not, how did you overcome the challenges? What are the lessons you’ve learned along the way. What do you want the world to know about you or your brand and story?
I am proud to be completely self-taught and every step in the process of making a piece of jewelry is hand made. Some might say this isn’t sustainable as you spend so much time crafting one item, but I think this is why it is called art.
I think it is important to do something you love and something that challenges you whether it is your full-time career or part time gig. For me, it is difficult to make time to create but I get so much out of it, it is worth every minute.
The current challenges have been keeping up with the economy; materials have become so expensive which can make it difficult to purchase necessary items when the costs are this high.

I believe in shopping small and local as well as encouraging makers and creators. I’d like to enable people to think about what can be purchased locally or hand crafted for gifts or simply to treat themselves.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would like to dedicate this shoutout to my husband! He has supported my hobby turned business since day one. He is my best customer and salesman and encourages me to make time to work on what I am passionate about or to take time to learn more about the craft.
