We had the good fortune of connecting with Uriel Carrillo and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Uriel, why did you decide to pursue a creative path?
I really like to think that I can create some kind of art or produce some feeling in the people that see my images. Because what I´m trying to do with all this photographies it´s to capture some significant moments and the people that I think that could be important in my simple life.

And sometimes people relate to those pictures or they relate with the space that is capture in the images, and in a way what make me initiate this work or project was that I saw people doing this all around the world and years ago and that´s what make me try to pursue making this kind of photography, right or wrong what I´m trying to pursue is to connect with people that sorrounds my daily life trough the act of photography.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I like to think that photography it´s really personal, everyone has a different way to see everything, and I think that there are great photographers and creators doing amazing things, and we are all different.
I´m pretty proud that with these project I had the oportunity to connect with a lot of people and I also have been able to meet a lot of great artists and creators, and also I´m proud that I´m trying to do what I really love and for some or other reason life has let me still creating and shooting, even if is not very constant.

It has not been easy, not always at least. There´s always ups and downs like in any kind of work/project, and everyone must know that you can always rely on other people and you can take a break, and not everything has to be perfect. You don´t have to be the best at anything to do what you like.

I really want that people know that everyone that is interested in photography they should do it, or any kind of art or work, anything that gives them some kind of warm feeling. Because that´s what I feel when I take photos.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
So I born near downtown in Tijuana and most of my life I had move around this area. Me and my family had always work on the flea markets in Tijuana, I would definetly take them to take a walk around the best flea markets on the city to eat the greatest food and find the best “gangas”.

I grew up in “La Liber” which is one of the oldest neighborhoods in Tijuana. And there are great places to eat and I find it nice to walk over those streets. So I problably take them to a really good diner over there.

In Tijuana you can always find a place to have a good beer so I really like the local brewings like Norte, Insurgente, Teorema and also the classic bars like Tropics, Dandy del Sur, I think there´s a lot of places where you can chill out and have fun just in the area of hometown.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would say that I dedicate this Shoutout to every person that has been there anytime I need them, some mentors from college and in life, my parents, people that support my work and also my friends because they always believe in what I try to do, even if is not the best idea.
