Meet Kenny Futrell | Personal Trainer & Online Fitness Coach


We had the good fortune of connecting with Kenny Futrell and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Kenny, is there something that you feel is most responsible for your success?
I really attribute being able to remain consistent to the success of my brand. I really focus a lot on maintaining structure in my daily routine so that I am pushing my business forward incrementally each day.

What should our readers know about your business?
I founded a personal training and online fitness coaching business that specializes in creating custom programs for my clients gearing towards using a mix of weight training and high-intensity interval training (HIIT) to achieve their personal fitness goals.
I am most proud of not necessarily when my clients lose or gain weight, but more-so when they start to engrain healthy habits in their lifestyle because the changes made have a better chance of becoming long lasting. What sets me apart from most is the emphasis that I put on developing healthy habits with my clients. My emphasis on this helps my clients develop healthier lifestyles and prevent them from reverting back to their prior one.
Initially, I started my business solely through social media by posting my workouts and fitness tips. Posting more consistently led to so many inquires about fitness plans that I felt the next best step was to pursue this as a business. One thing I will say is it was not easy at all! One of my big challenge starting off was finding paying clients so what I did to work past this was I under-promised but over-delivered on my first few clients. So, I kept my prices as low as possible in order to get the first couple clients then once the results came in, I would use that as proof of concept to raise my rates.
One lesson that I learned along the way is that it pays to know how to properly communicate with people. The book, “How to Win Friends and Influence People,” helped me grow my communication skills so that I can understand more of what the other person really wants from me and how I can over-deliver in that area so that they’re satisfied in the end.
The main thing I want people to know from my story is that if you have a dream, a solid work ethic, and discipline, you can really make a living doing exactly what you love to do!
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
As a former San Diego resident, I would tell them to start the morning with breakfast at Family House of Pancakes in National City. From there, head down to Coronado to walk off that big breakfast on beach. Next, head to Balboa Park for the scenery and to take pics to send back home. And finish up taking in the sunset at Sunset Cove and get dinner from one of the many beautiful restaurants in the area!

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I’m sure this might sound cliche but, to be honest, I want to dedicate this shoutout to every single one of my clients so far. Without knowing how the result will be, they each took a leap of faith and trusted me to help transform their bodies and lifestyles and for that, I am forever thankful. Without them, I wouldn’t be in the position I am in today.
