We had the good fortune of connecting with Angelica Mack and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Angelica, how has your perspective on work-life balance evolved over time?
My balance has changed greatly. I used to think that I had to have optimal balance to be truly happy and successful, like I had to have an even split between ‘having fun/enjoying my life’ and ‘working really, really, HARD’.

I realized NOW that there is no such thing as balance, in-fact I’ve realized that I have to be imbalanced for some time to truly reach my goals. I have to be very strategic and focused to get to where I want and I don’t think balance plays a role in that, at least for now.

I think the belief of balance can take away from your focus sometimes, I do believe in rewarding yourself and taking beaks of course. But trying to reach balance while you are working on becoming an incredible leader or building a business, I don’t think is possible.

I think once I’ve reached all my goals and all my visions have come to fruition I can try and be balanced.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Currently, I’m in the beauty industry working with LivBay lash as their head trainer. I travel the US and teach women & men how to do lash extensions and start their own businesses.

I’m most proud of my commitment, I think a lot of people would’ve stopped by now because this career takes you away from your family and friends. I’m on the road every other week for 6 days so I miss A LOT of things and it’s hard sometimes. So my dedication is something I’m most proud of.

I got to where I am today by taking risks. I came from a marketing background, received my bachelors in Marketing & Communications in 2016 and quickly jumped into the field. I was working for an agency in Las Vegas as PR/Marketing coordinator and absolutely HATED it. I didn’t enjoy the work, corporate/professional atmosphere felt unauthentic and forced. I didn’t enjoy sitting in cubical for 8-9 hours a day emailing & begging reporters to feature one of our clients in their next issue, Ultimately the lack of creativity is what steered me away. After I realized that the office life wasn’t for me I figured maybe working with a music festival would be more up my ally. After-all I am a music junkie, love music festivals and pondered, maybe if I work for a company that pulled my heart strings, it would change my experience. So I quit my full time agency job and took on an unpaid internship with Life Is Beautiful (to get my foot in the door) and realized that the work was somewhat similar, MUCH more enjoyable than the agency but still the same kind of work.

While I was in the internship I was of course wondering what the heck am I going to do next, I thought about getting in the beauty industry because I saw my sister as a cosmetologist make her own schedule, have control of her day and make GREAT money! The light bulb went off I said “Beauty industry, here I come!”

I took a leap of faith and invested some money in a 5 day course (the same course I’m traveling and teaching now ) that I wasn’t sure I would even like and I fell in love with it. Fast forward 5 years and I’m now an expert lash artist and a head Lash instructor for one of top lash companies in the country.

No it wasn’t easy, taking a risk is scary and the first 2-3 years were extremely challenging. I overcame these challenges by always talking to my sister. She always reminded me to keep going, it will get easier, you will get more clients, you will make more money etc. She always pushed me and I’m so grateful for that. Also, speaking with other artist in my industry helped, paying attention to industry leaders helped me overcome a lot challenges as well and ALWAYS listening to positive content.

Some lessons I’ve learned along the way are to always be consistent, be patient, sacrifice is necessary, always show up with a positive attitude, perspective is everything, and lead with love and most importantly life is what you make it.

I want the world to know that I’m on a journey to fulfill my purpose, to lead by example and help every single individual I can help along the way.

My shoutout is dedicated to my incredible family who have always supported me, spoke positively to me and most importantly loved me ALWAYS. Also a shoutout to the incredible women that have mentored me throughout my life and saw the light in me before I knew what was there.
