Meet Roy Belzer | Personal Trainer and Content Creator

We had the good fortune of connecting with Roy Belzer and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Roy, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
Starting my own business was never really a question for me. I spent years working in and for gyms, but almost all of the time I spent doing so I was working for companies that were more concerned with making a dollar instead of helping people. My job as a Health Coach and Personal Trainer is to change lives, not make money for a gym. Running my own business gives me the freedom and autonomy to help people in my own way and focus on the needs of the client rather than sales.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
As a content creator, I strive to show up and be the representation for body positivity that I always wished that I had myself when I was struggling in the past. As a member of the LGBTQIA+ community we have expectations and standards for our bodies that are unrealistic or unattainable for many. It leads to a loss in self confidence or pushes those within the community to pursue drastic measures in their diets and exercise. The content I create is to help show people that we are allowed to be happy and beautiful in our body, regardless of our shape or size. I want to create a safe place for people to regain the confidence that they deserve.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I technically live in Philadelphia, but am constantly traveling. But if they were to come and visit me at home I would take them to my favorite local museum, the Franklin Institute! I’m a huge science nerd, so I am immediately drawn to it. For food I would have to take them to The Victor Cafe. It’s one of my favorite restaurants because all of the wait staff are trained opera singers and they perform arias and art songs in between bringing you delicious Italian cuisine. For entertainment I love to go to a little queer piano bar called Tavern On Camac. This bar has top notch cocktails and live music where you can go up and sing with the pianist! As a performer myself, I always sing a song or two.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Truly, the people that I have to thank for the success I have found in my business are so many of my dear friends. They have been incredibly supportive through the entire conception of my business to the thriving empire I’m building it into. I started my journey into coaching online at the beginning of the pandemic, consistently doubting my potential and fearing failure, but the support of my friends pushed me to consistently grow and help more people all over the world. I’d be nowhere without their love and support!
