Meet Courtney Barilec | Nutrition Consultant & Yoga Instructor

We had the good fortune of connecting with Courtney Barilec and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Courtney, is there something that you feel is most responsible for your success?
The most important factor behind our success has been immersing ourselves into the community. It has been going out of our comfort zone to meaningfully engage with people more often. It’s easy to pass by the opportunity for meaningful interaction with others. However, when we choose to engage fully, cool things happen. This doesn’t mean just talking about our business either. It means building relationships and trust with others, which has been rewarding and fun. I remember when we first started our business I would attend yoga or go to the grocery store and come home with a new partnership, client, connection, etc. I was just “living my life” but was unintentionally “working at the same time.” Pretty cool.

What should our readers know about your business?
My husband, Alex, and I started The Mindful Health Collective to help go getters (like ourselves) who are exhausted by the many demands of life. What they want is balance + energy so they can create the meaningful life they desire. They want to grow in their business or in their career and also support their health and have a fulfilling personal life. When we think of health, we think of the health of mind, body, and spirit. Our health is affected by how we choose to spend our time, our mindset, the food we eat, the sleep we do or do not get, our relationships, environment, and more.
I have my master’s degree in Nutrition & Integrative Health. I was able to learn a holistic approach to nutrition and health. I worked as a Nutritional Health Coach at a local health foods store and I would get frustrated at times because I felt I didn’t have the effective coaching skills that would be most beneficial for the individuals I worked with. Now, what’s cool is that my husband is a professionally certified coach with the International Coaching Federation (ICF).
You may be seeing where this is going. We decided to join our professional gifts together. I am able to offer top notch nutrition guidance and Alex is able to offer his coaching skills. The reality is that some people do not need or want nutrition guidance. Some people want to dial in their schedule and set goals to help them grow and succeed in their work. Others find that they start thinking the “answer” is in knowing more about nutrition, but realize that their decline in health or dissatisfaction with where they are at in life stems from their mindset or their lack of managing time and energy. We meet you where you’re at throughout the whole time of working with you. There are two of us with two different areas of expertise to help you with what you need on that day, week, month of your life to help get you further to where you want to be.
Finally, I must mention mindfulness. We take an approach of mindfulness. Growth and change happens when we become aware of what the heck is happening on the outside and the inside. We help you focus on becoming aware of what you’re sensing and feeling in the moment, without judgment, to create solutions that are true to your own personality, values, and spirit.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
We have lots of visitors so this is a fun question.
We typically take our friends on a hike up Taylor Canyon, at Causey Reservoir, Wheeler Creek, and the Ogden Overlook at Snowbasin. If it’s winter, you best bet we are taking our friends to ski Snowbasin and Powder Mountain.
We will do some grocery shopping together at Natural Grocers. I am a previous employee of Natural Grocers and I show everyone this amazing and affordable store. After we leave, people understand why.
When in Ogden, we may go to Lotus Cafe & Yoga Studio for lunch & a yoga class. I teach three classes there per week so it is a space that means a lot to me.
We will get dinner and/or drinks at The Angry Goat, UTOG, Ogden River Brewing, Roosters on B Street, or Table 25. If it’s a beautiful summer day, we may watch the sunset with a drink on the roof top of Alleged or with an ice cream cone from Farr’s.
Finally, we will do a send off to our friends at Kaffe Mercantile on 26th street. We will get the most delicious coffee in town and a breakfast sandwich.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
We are overwhelmed by all the efforts, support, mentorship, love, and encouragement we have received. From the beginning, we have been so very grateful for the overwhelming support from our friends and family. We received messages, they attended workshops, they enthusiastically joined our book club, they connected us with people they thought would benefit from working or partnering with us, and so much more.
Also, everything we have accomplished so far would not have been possible without the Wildcat Microfund, which is a grant program for small business owners in Weber & Davis County. We have gotten branding, web design, book keeping, and client generation support because of the funds we received. I’m not sure we would still be running without it. Thank you Weber State University, all those a part of this program, and all of the amazing service providers we have worked with.
