Meet Sheri Arcuria | Small Business Owner and Master of Bad-Assery

We had the good fortune of connecting with Sheri Arcuria and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Sheri, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
I had always joked for the last 10 years or so about being a self-proclaimed “Master of Bad-Assery.” When I accomplished something hard or challenging, I would post about it. When the world stopped in 2020, the struggles became more and more real in the world around us. People were battling depression, sadness and fear. They were falling into old habits with their stresses and were taking steps backwards. Social media was flooded with negativity. I kept trying to find ways to spread positivity so I started making posts about Bad Ass people and why they needed a shout out. I highlighted why they were amazing and deserved a declaration of love and appreciation. People started responding well to it and the people who were mentioned were overwhelmed with appreciation and their fight and determination to get themselves out was slowly growing. As the months went on, my husband had the idea that we should put Master of Bad-Assery or M.O.B.A. on some T-shirts and see if people would respond. As two people who came from struggle in our own ways and as a couple, we wanted to show people how powerful mindset was and how you could overcome anything. Struggle then becomes merely a foundational point in which to grow. T-shirts were popular and then before we could blink, we had hats, hoodies, and gym apparel. People are now sending us pics of themselves in their M.O.B.A. gear and sharing how the mindset of being bad ass has taken over and helped them get out of their own darkness. It’s the greatest feeling in the world to watch someone adopt and idea you had and use it to propel themselves forward and pay it forward to others. M.O.B.A. is a Mindset, a Mantra and a Mentality that you can be the best version of yourself.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
The underlying theme of my entire life is how I adopted a mindset that whatever is thrown my way, I will adapt and continue pushing forward. That mindset has been applied in all aspects of my life from relationships, jobs, obesity, friendships, health and finances. There have been a lot of dark days and I had to make the decision to either sit and cry or find a solution and rise above it. It’s not always easy but I trust the process and belief that thoughts become things and I have become living proof that it is all feasible if you generally believe it. To witness others’ propel because of that adopted mindset is one of the greatest feelings in the world and it continues to keep you humbled and determined to keep pushing forward. We have two options. We can wait for the successes of the top to hopefully one day trickle down to us or we can start with ourselves and eventually spread that outward and make a difference from the ground up!

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Living in Bakersfield, CA, the city has been growing so there are lots of things to do here. If my best friend was visiting, I would take them to some of our favorite eateries here, from Mexican to Pho and take them to our hidden gems we have found. Would likely take them to the gym we go to because it’s such a sense of family there that they would all welcome any guest who comes by and my best friend could see the amazing people I have come across on this journey and how your immediate day to day circles help define the person that you become. Theres a fun roller rink here that brings me back 20-30 years when I was young, carefree and no responsibilities. It would be great to roll around and act like kids again

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My husband Erick has been the true driving force of this business. What started as a funny idea turned into an empire in the making because he adopted the mindset in his own life and is an equal partner in everything that comes from this.
