We had the good fortune of connecting with Marty Sanchez and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Marty, why did you pursue a creative career?
I pursued a creative career because I love making things, putting things together. Since I was a kid I’ve loved LEGO and other building toys. I love turning an idea into a physical thing, whether that be a song, a painting, or pants covered with patches.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I’m definitely inspired by the DIY punk aesthetic and I love that it’s about “everybody can make art.” When it comes to sewing patches and clothes I love the rugged unpolished look and I try to not let imperfections get to me. My music is definitely inspired by punk and other heavy music as well and I think it also fits the DIY aesthetic.

Starting a new project always is exciting, which means I have a lot of unfinished ones, but finishing a project that took a long time is the most exciting thing and it feels good to be able to share it with the Internet.

I’m still learning new lessons everyday, it’s definitely not easy. You have to find motivation when it’s not there and you have to channel your negative emotions into something productive or creative. But at the end of the day you still need to give yourself time to rest and to not always be looking for the next big project. Work/life balance is still important even if your work is art.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
In Lake Elsinore there’s not that much to do, but it’s definitely not a boring place. There bowling alleys and movie theaters, and you’re not too far from more exciting places like Riverside and Pomona. Maybe everyday we went to a different area.

First day, stick around Elsinore, the downtown area is really nice and has a cool place called Stadium Pizza. Main Street Candy Bar is really cool too.

Second day maybe go to downtown Riverside and see some live music or go to some bars. Back to the Grind and Lake Alice are some of my favorites.

3rd day slow it down and go for a hike
at Skyline in Corona.

4th day, we could go to Ontario Mills and visit the Lego Store and Sam Ash music.

5th day, if we don’t have the weekend and it’s our last day, I would probably ask them what they would want to see and we would go and check it out. Get their last sights in before they have to leave.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I definitely have to shoutout my parents for putting me in band in 7th band because if they didn’t, I wouldn’t be doing music or art today. Also my friends that I make music with push me forward every day.
