Meet Pauline Sala | Surfskater, model and actress

We had the good fortune of connecting with Pauline Sala and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Pauline, what role has risk played in your life or career?
I grew up in France, but my parents and I would go to the US a lot and I always knew I was going to move there as soon as I can! So as soon as I graduated high school, I moved to Florida by myself to pursue a degree in Theater arts! It was one of the biggest risk I have ever taken, moving by myself to a whole different country at 18 years old! My college life was pretty typical : joined a sorority, partied a bunch and studied a lot!
I would say, the biggest and most rewarding risk I have ever taken in my 22 years of life was moving to Los Angeles during a pandemic without a plan! At the time, I was dating a guy and would do everything with him which was fun in the moment but it made me realize that you need alone time when you’re in a relationship! When that guy broke up with me, I was lost! I was in LA, by myself , heartbroken and without any real friends! So one day instead of staying miserable, I felt called to go to the Venice skate park! And the rest is history! I started skating in November 2021 which led me to get scouted for my first 2 big modeling jobs!
Life is really unexpected and taking risks is so worth it!

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Growing up, I always knew I was going to do something related to acting! I went to see my first Broadway musical, Mamma MIA, in 2006 and this is when I fell in love with acting! I took my first acting class at 10 and then went to a boarding school that specialized in Theater arts. After high school, I went to Stetson University, Deland,Fl , and majored in Theater Arts. And then kept taking acting classes after moving to LA. However, after moving to Los Angeles, I’ve realized that so many people move here to pursue an acting career but only very few make it! So I had to figure out a plan B! I still wanted to do something that made me happy and that was somehow related to acting, so I started surfskating (On a carver with Cx trucks) at the Venice skatepark. One day, two different people came up to me and asked me if I could model for their brand, and of course I said Yes! That day, I got scouted to model for a Gymshark campaign and for 37Brands! These two jobs led me to get signed with a modeling agency and get me started in the modeling world!
I never thought in a million years that I could model with my skateboard!
What I’ve learned from that experience is that being yourself and not caring about what people think of you is key! And also, it’s possible to model if you’re short!

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I am currently located in Venice beach, California. If my best friend was visiting I would first show them around my neighborhood. I live on the Venice Canals, so we would cruise around on our skateboards and then take a little stroll on the canals with the house canoe! Then we would take our boards to the Venice Skatepark and skate for a little bit! After skating, we would go to my favorite spot to get Acai Bowls called the Fruit Gallery! They make the best Acai Bowls and they’re only 8.99 bucks!!! After eating we would skate to the local dive bar called Hinano located on Washington right by the Washington Pier and play some pool and dance! Hinano usually has live music on the weekends! Then for Sunset we would drive to Malibu and take Mulholland drive and stop at a “secret spot” to watch the amazing sunset! California is one of the most beautiful state, so I would probably want to show my bestfriend some of my favorite places in Cali and take a road trip up the coast to Big Sur, Santa Cruz and also drive through the Avenue of the Giants!

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would love to give a shout-out to my parents for always believing in me and pushing me to be the best person I can be! I would also love to give a shout-out to GrlSwirl and all the amazing people that I’ve met through it, (especially my best friend Sierra! ) And last but not least to all the amazing people that I met at the Venice skatepark !
