Meet Casey Konen | Floral Creative

We had the good fortune of connecting with Casey Konen and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Casey, why did you decide to pursue a creative path?
Creativity has always been an integral part of my being. For as long as I remember I’ve always just been making things. I was the little kid making bracelets and necklaces, painting, drawing. Making models out of clay, mud, sand, whatever was around I was trying to make it in to something else. I’ve always loved the challenge of making something out of nothing, or putting things together in a way you hadn’t thought of.
I’ve always known that pursuing my creativity was in alignment with my purpose because of the flow I am able to fall in to. When I’m working on something time seems dissolve and I can completely connect into my work. Sometimes I think about how happy I’m making my inner child when I’m making flower crowns, or giant art installs. I know she’s proud of me, and that means a lot.
There’s so much vulnerability in sharing your art, but when you do, you come to find that you’re inspiring others to be vulnerable too. There’s such a connectedness in the world of creativity, and it feeds my soul in a way that no other career path every really could.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I’m technically a florist, but I use the title “floral creative”. I am so dang inspired by the natural beauty and intricacies of flowers and plants. I watch the way art mimics nature, and nature mimics art.
I use flowers as my medium, and am enchanted by the full sensory experience of working with such natural beauty.
All I want is to share that feeling, that beauty with as many people as I can.
I want people to be in awe of the sacred geometry, the secret languages, the deeper meanings, the stories I hear from my flowers.
Starting a flower business amidst a global pandemic has had an alarming amount of set backs and challenges, but it has also made me so quick to think on my feet. I am such a great problem solver because of that.
This job has strengthened my confidence in myself and my creativity. I’ve also found such strength in community. So many great friends, resources and experiences. Even though it’s been really tough, I’m still so grateful for all of it. Especially the hard parts.
I hope my brand challenges old ideas of what you think flowers “should be”. I want people to look at my art and be wildly inspired by the possibilities. Introduce them to colors they’ve never seen, concepts that are off the wall, make them think “ I can’t believe those are flowers!” Or, “how did she do that?!”
Flowers are for every person on this earth, and I just want to share their specialness with everyone. That’s really it

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My parents have always encouraged my creativity every step of the way. I had the parents who proudly displayed my art, attended all of my plays, shared all of my work. They both still do. They still support me in all of my endeavors and I can’t thank them enough for that.
Also, my son Dash. There’s never been anything that has made me more confident as a creative than creating life. And he fills me with so much inspiration and joy.
