Meet Alex Cordova | Owner of The Magic Oil Box LLC

We had the good fortune of connecting with Alex Cordova and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Alex, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
There are so many people who are interested in aromatherapy, but are not interested in paying for a monthly membership, and do not have the time to really dive into learning about essential oils. I thought it would be a great idea for me to share the aromatherapy recipes I use personally. We are very dependent on pharmaceutical medications and chemicals in general. I want to help others find a balance between modern practices and holistic practices.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I am a Queer and Latinx small business owner, and first generation colleague graduate. My degree is in Healthcare Administration, but over there years I have started to adapt to more holistic practices in my personal life. I formed The Magic Oil Box LLC in March of 2021 and starting selling on online platforms. Sales were extremely slow, and thanks to a fellow small business owner I got the courage to start selling my products and showcasing my brand all local pop ups and themed markets. Since then I have never looked back. My social and communication skills have really helped me and my brand get some recognition is local community circles. I want the world to see The Magic Oil Box LLC as an aromatic apothecary small business that wants to help people find a balance between modern and holistic practices.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Since the pandemic I do my best to support local business as much as possible. Definitely would have dinner and drinks at 4th and Mill located in Ontario, California. For late night drinks and delicious tacos then the place to be is Goodfellas located in Rancho Cucamonga, California.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
The Queer Mercado is a East LA based market and organization that has created a safe and creative space for all Latinx and Queer artists, and small business owners. Starting a small business is intimidating enough, but another big step is going out there and presenting your brand and products. The Queer Mercado was really empowered me to keep going.
