Meet D.O.V.E | Battle Rapper and Published Model

We had the good fortune of connecting with D.O.V.E and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi D.O.V.E, what led you to pursuing a creative path professionally?
As a child I went through domestic and family violence and my escape was writing songs and dealing with the emotional abuse at home.
I started going to friends houses who also rapped and growing up in Australia most of our culture in the 90s came from the United States.
I was a graffiti artist as a kid and Battle rap was part of our culture. I pursued an artistic career because it was a release and acceptance into a family I never had.
I released my first album in 2003.
I started gaining noteriority as a artist and started rap battles in Australia for real talk battle league and now based in San Diego

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Im a Battle Rapper being female in a male dominated industry where the issues are they don’t take you seriously and consider you a piece of meat.
What sets me apart from alot of women worldwide in the Music Industry is I’m humble and have not forgotten where I’ve come from. A working single mom who at the end of the day putting food on the table for my child. I don’t let fame go to my head. I have the mentality of always being real and not fake and letting myself as an artist lose my identity and humbleness.
I went through setbacks of having people in modelling say my body is too curvy to model to lose wieght but I kept pushing and eventually the no became a yes and I was featured on the cover of Moll magazine Australia and featured in Moll magazine South Africa the lessons are keep trying and never give up.
Eventually I got recognised in the American Battle Rap area and battled against Traxx James in long Beach los angeles California.
I’m recording a new album at present and working with emerging artists
My story is from a little girl that became a woman and moved from Australia to America and dreams do come true and never give up.
Dreams are made by your work ethic.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
The best way I would introduce my best friend from Australia to visit is to live like a local in San Diego Best Things to Do in San Diego

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
One of the most influential people in my life and and so inspirational to me is my best friend Ross Geraci aka VX Assassin.
He is a San Diego based Battle Rapper Film Maker, Voice Actor and Runs his own label Planet X Records LLC and has released his last album on
Hobo with a machete
At present Ross is working on a few film projects on his film channel Planet X Film and is covering the Zodiac Killer
I’m inspired by him on his work ethic and creativity and has mentored myself as an artist entering the US music industry.
He will be the next big San Diego director next in Hollywood and I feel that he deserves alot of credit from me because of his guidance and encouragement to do better and to invest in good people.
