We had the good fortune of connecting with Keith Lord and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Keith, why did you decide to pursue a creative path?

I’m a Chef in San Diego. Which is quite creatively rewarding and the word rewarding isn’t something people often use when describing their profession. While I am very thankful to have this, my creative process doesn’t end here, at all.

I began exploring multimedia art as a different creative outlet. It began as a simple collage design to give to an artist to draw out my first tattoo, and developed into much more image focused work. I worked with all types of mediums and paints, photo manipulations and really bad Kanji. As time has gone on, I’ve found myself drawn more to the image and have been doing more and more photography and less art surrounding images.

The result is now a very portrait feeling photo page and business that is truly all about color. I think the images are uniquely mine and feel the way I saw the moment.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I’ll draw inspiration and excitement from the artwork I create & through anything visually stimulating. From doodles on cocktail napkins to “classically defined” art (whatever that means). By treating power dining sessions as the contact sport it truly is. I’m motivated by driving at frenetic speeds, amazingly loud music, social media, and anything random or completely unusual. I plan my travels based on the foods, cuisines & restaurants I want to sample & have the curry stains on my passport to back that up. I love love to do photo sessions with people I don’t even know. it seems like the greatest moments come right after you become comfortable with someone new.  As with cooking. my whole life is about color, and being extremely well caffeine…

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Well… I think the first intro place to go in SD is the Friendly, have a slice, and a dirty flattop burger. I think that sets to tone a proper welcome to San Diego.

Food, Food, Food. If you weren’t super hungry when you got here, we might not be the best of friends.
Tacos, beans, and a quesadilla at Lola 55, Avant Garde Sushi at Wrench n Rodent, A Michelin experience Japanese 8 course at Matsu. Dinner or brunch at Trust, a beautiful steak dinner at Rare Society. Oh, an almond croissant at Matteo, its even better than the ones in Paris, yep, I said it. A beautiful Mediterranean meal with absolutely amazing cocktails at Callie. And the beer, we are THE beer town. Culver Beer is my favorite, ill drink anything they make. Harland, Society, Hess bring them to all. for cocktails, I have my favorite as well, its You and Yours. Weather its cocktails and a bite at their tasting room, in a can from a local store, or mixed at home. beyond all others, this is my San Diego cocktail experience.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I sought out an art teacher as I began this journey into more work in the multimedia format. Someone who might understand my creative Cheffy brain, my Hollywood roots and my desire to want to convey my feelings and color onto a piece of paper.

Kelly Kilmer has been just that for me. A Hollywood Artist who has done more to get me out of my perfectionist brain and just go, flow and let the creative happen. I can now see the difference in the pieces and work I have done with and without her influence. Its amazing the difference for me, the pieces that possess a need for something to be prefect, and those when I choose to trust the process of creativity.
