We had the good fortune of connecting with Kyle Moss and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Kyle, can you tell us about an impactful book you’ve read and why you liked it or what impact it had on you?
I recently read “Everything is Spiritual” by Rob Bell and enjoyed the HECK out of it. His newest book has literally no chapters, though, and is basically a big run on thought. PERFECT for me, not so much for others (like my husband, haha). BUT! If you can read it somewhat like a work of art or a book of poetry, then it flows over you like the energy it embodies so well!

His thoughts on how every little thing in our lives is not only intertwined but also meant to encompass SO much more meaning than we typically allow is equally eye-opening and encouraging. It inspired me to take a slow, deep, meditative breath, look around, & appreciate, with new eyes, the inner workings of my day to day life. It helped re-affirm much of what I teach in my Joyful Mindset Coaching and inspired new energy in some of the circumstances of my immediate environment which may in fact be taking place for my growth & learning – if I’m ready to look at it from a new perspective.

I highly recommend this book as a simple yet powerful reminder that alllllll we do on a daily basis matters – it’s all connected – and can be used to continually create new life, new energy, & new creation everywhere we turn. IF you’re willing to allow it!

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
The art of Joyful Mindset Coaching is incredibly unique – to each individual with whom I get to work AND to me as the coach! We talk alllll about our thoughts, feelings, actions, & results – so, as you can imagine this looks incredibly different for each person. And navigating all our thinking & emotions together is fascinating! When people truly begin to ask themselves what joy looks, tastes, sounds, & feels like it feels like a wonderful symphony being strung together note by unique note to bring to the surface a masterpiece of THEM.

My path to this point has been an adventure for sure – up, down, here, there, & every which way you could expect. Having a near 15 year corporate + nonprofit background behind me was such an important foundation. It trained me in ways I could never have imagined being useful from scrappy financial planning to public speaking + interview skills, from business structure models to genuine relationship building – all of my vocational experiences up to this point are being put to use as I journey through my coaching practice.

Additionally, because my work is so specific to each individual, all of my relational + personal experiences come in handy, too. Being multi-ethnic, having a rare disease, having a son born with special health needs, & developing my own personal faith in God are all facets of what I’m able to offer as examples and mindset equipment to clients as we journey together on their path through joy.

I’m continuing to learn as I go and I really hope that doesn’t change because that’s more than half the fun – learning, building my own personal capacity, & being surprised by thoughts as I journey.

I want people to know in their bones that joy is in fact a choice. Sometimes from moment to moment and on other days from day to day. It’s recognizing the small things, the interconnectedness of ALL our lives, and the experiments we are or are not willing to take along the way. It’s ultimately defining your own vibrant perspective on the beauty around you, being grateful for every little thing, and deciding to think about that, as often as you can.

And! I’d love to remind you that it’s difficult to experience what you haven’t slowed down to define. So, keeping in mind that life is NOW, do what you can to create your own version of joy, TODAY!

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I grew up in Western New York between Niagara Falls & Buffalo so I’m taking people right to the beach. It almost doesn’t matter which one, haha, but if I’m forced to choose I’m heading to Torrey Pines or Fletcher’s Cove. Or Del Mar. Or Cardiff. Or even Mission Beach. Or seriously, whichever beach I’m closest to at the moment. 😉

We’d get coffee at Mostra in Carmel Mountain, grab a donut at Donut Touch, and then pick up El Misa Cafe breakfast snacks. For lunch we’d head to Cardiff to Seaside Market for some good ole Cardiff Crack tri-tip. We’d probably hike up Torrey Pines and then take a drive to see allllll the coast we can see. Snack on a Cali burrito for sure. Maybe I’d show them Balboa Park where my husband and I got married (in the Museum of Art), find a farmer’s market, and potentially hunt for some street art downtown. If it was a Sunday, of course we’d go listen to my favorite speaker / pastor at The Church at Rancho Bernardo (Jared Herd) and may hit up Little Italy for any new restaurant for dinner.

Nothing too complicated, just simple outdoor beauty and lots of good food!

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My husband. Truly. He spoke belief & support into me from a very early stage in my entrepreneurship journey – before I was even ready to claim the path I was on myself. His encouragement and specific identification of the value I had to offer others was the beginning of my own recognition of my purpose.

His initial pushing (in the best of ways, haha) was what drove me to clarify what it was I wanted to offer and his willingness to invest our own family’s time, money, & energy into developing my business has been priceless.

Even when some family & friends didn’t understand what it was I was attempting to create or maybe even smirked at the idea of what coaching was about, he kept reminding me of why I started and the potential I had to serve others – if I kept going. And he’s helped me keep going every step of the way!
