We had the good fortune of connecting with Savannah Miller and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Savannah, what habits have helped you succeed?
I’ve changed my view of success, I used to believe success was a specific destination but now I understand success is a process. I focus on taking small steps daily, doing my best no matter what, and being consistent even when I am not motivated. Being a Division 1 collegiate athlete taught me the importance of routine, discipline and how little routines over time lead to big results. I believe in the power of tiny gains adding up, and one of my favorite quotes is “success is found in our daily routines”. I’ve found it’s the same concept across the board- for example our health is a result of decisions we make daily and these decisions are what I get to work on with clients. I think creating and maintaining good habits starts with having a strong drive behind the habit. For me, my drive comes from believing in what I do and helping others improve the most important thing in their life, their health. Knowing that nutrition can determine the quality and longevity of someone’s life motivates me to keep showing up in my business and continuing to grow. The habits I teach are the same ones I practice myself: consistently fueling my body with a variety of nutrients (eat the rainbow), managing my stress, listening to what my body needs (sleep, exercise, rest, laughter etc), and prioritizing and letting go of perfectionism. I love that these habits look unique to every individual because it keeps things interesting. I don’t think I would be able to help clients improve their health if I didn’t have good habits myself. Your mental, physical, emotional health and wellbeing is an investment. My goal is to help people feel their best and I love that I get to take my passions and help people improve the most important thing in their life, their health.

Please tell us more about your work.
I’m a retired NCAA D1 Athlete and former collegiate coach who has combined athletic experience with nutrition expertise in order to help individuals reach their fitness and health goals.

What do you want the world to know about you or your brand and story?
My approach with nutrition is: “it’s not a diet, it’s a lifestyle.” I don’t just teach education or routines, I help people fall in love with taking care of themselves while working on the bigger picture and their mindset encompassing their health.

We’d love to hear what sets you apart from others, what you are most proud of or excited about.
I think having both an athlete and coaching background has helped me understand how to work with and coach different individuals. As a coach, you need to understand how to both push athletes and encourage them. This is the approach I take with my nutrition clients- I give them the toolset and education, and I hold them accountable while coaching them through implementing new lifestyle habits.

I try to give my nutrition clients the “cliff notes” from my education. I am so thankful to have my Dietitian license because it sets me apart from other Nutritionists. Registered Dietitian Nutritionists are trained experts in nutrition with over 4 years of medical science classes (Bachelor’s Degree), 1200+ hours of supervised practice (Dietetic Internship), the passing of the national exam (Licensing) and the maintenance of continuing education credits (CEU’s). A dietitian should be the go-to for any nutrition related questions!

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I may be a little biased being a San Diego City Beach Lifeguard, but if I had a week to do anything in San Diego with friends I would spend it by taking them to the beautiful beaches along the coast! (Pacific Beach, La Jolla, Solana…). Any day at the beach is a great day! I would also take them to some of my favorite food spots! Coffee Cycle in PB for coffee, Shake Smart at SDSU for acai bowls, The Taco Stand in La Jolla for street tacos, and Trilogy Sanctuary Rooftop Cafe for a healthy and tasty dinner!

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
So many people have helped me and inspired me along the way. I have to give a shoutout to my family and all the friends that have become family (Tory, Chris and Tracy). As well as my former coaches, supervisors (especially Ashleigh Gentry and Captain Hodges), professors (in particular Dr Hooshmand) and athletic advisor (Cheng Ko) who have always encouraged me to keep going.
