We had the good fortune of connecting with Jessica Rizzotto and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jessica, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
I have always loved photography as a hobby, ever since I was a teenager and learned how to develop my own film in a darkroom. However once I became a mother and experienced firsthand just how quickly my babies grew and changed, the importance of capturing those fleeting moments became paramount. I realized that I wanted to help preserve these memories for other families as well, not just my own. I always feel so honored to work with growing families, to be a small part of their journey and capture all the tiny details of their precious little ones for them to look back on for years to come.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
We live in a digital world. I think that one of the biggest struggles as a photographer is figuring out where we fit in in this digital world, while still holding the strong belief that fine art portraits are to be enjoyed in printed form. The main thing I knew I wanted for my portrait business from the beginning was to offer more than just jpegs to my families. There’s something so beautiful about holding a photograph in your hand, or seeing your family’s smiling faces on the wall everyday in your home, or flipping through your baby’s newborn or first birthday photo album anytime you want to remember all of those sweet details and expressions they had when they were so little. Many families seem to only be interested in digital images these days. I definitely understand the excitement of wanting to share online with friends and family. However it can be a challenge because digital images tend to stay digital, hidden away on a hard drive or in a phone. I am very passionate about offering more to my clients. I want them to be able to enjoy their beautiful portraits with the unique printed products that my studio offers.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I’ve always loved Old Town! I love the history, the architecture, the art, the food. Some of my favorite spots to visit offer educational opportunities with my children. We love the San Diego Zoo and the Safari Park. We love visiting the observatory on Palomar Mountain. Julian is such a quaint mountain town, it’s always a favorite spot to visit any time of year. However, I am an introvert so some of my favorite places to spend time are places where I feel like I can find some peace and quiet – our beautiful beaches, hiking trails, or anywhere out in nature where I can enjoy our incredible local weather.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My husband definitely deserves a shoutout! He has been my biggest cheerleader from the very beginning when owning my own photography studio was just a dream. He is also a small business owner and has always encouraged me to believe in myself, to know and understand my own worth as a business owner, and has always been there to support me through my doubts and struggles. He’s really the one who encouraged me to just jump right in with both feet, I am so grateful for his support and the support of my family.
