Meet John Alves | Chief Passionate Officer & Founder

We had the good fortune of connecting with John Alves – AKA Dirtbag John and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi John, we’d love to hear more about your end-goal, professionally.

For Dirtbag Clothing our end goal is to be a community of passionate dreamers and doers…so when you hear someone say “You’re a Dirtbag” it’s a true badge of honor in that you did what you’re passionate about following your own dreams and desires. Personally, I just want to live the Dirtbag lifestyle and have people say I was a good Human.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?

The “ART” of Dirtbag Clothing is the meaning behind the brand.  Apparel is just apparel unless there is a meaning behind it and for Dirtbag Clothing our meaning comes from our community – the Artists, Athletes, Craftsmen, Professionals and Dreamers that wear our clothing as a badge of honor. Dirtbag Clothing is 110% grassroots run by the same passionate dreamers as the ones that buy our stuff. So, you can say we practice what we preach, and we could not be happier about it. Early on we tried to go after “big money” to help grow our brand but we quickly learned that they wanted to change our message and make Dirtbag a “commodity” and we could not do that.  So, it’s been a slow grind but we are doing it our way, the DIRTBAG Way.  It’s the only way we would want it, and why we say, “WE ALL RISE UP TOGETHER”.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I have to laugh as this is the one thing, I’m horrible at… for me it’s Old Town for Mexican food and then a show at Brick by Brick. Or we can hit the Gas Lamp district again for some Tacos and a show at HOB and then finish off the night at ATOMIC for an 80’s cover band or some stellar DJ’ing to dance the night away and make our ladies happy!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Dirtbag is for EVERYONE! so this shoutout goes to every human that wants to follow their dreams and passion and just needs that nudge to break free. We say here at Dirtbag, “WE ALL RISE UP TOGETHER” so with Dirtbag we are a community that is always here to assist our fellow Dirtbags.
