We reached out to some of our favorite entrepreneurs and asked them to think back and tell us about how they decided to start a business. Check out their responses below.

I moved to San Diego from Arkansas about 5 years ago and started going to yoga (I had never done yoga my 23 years of living in Arkansas)! Once I found myself consistently going, I began to look around the room and notice that all of the yoga mats around me were one color (basic but totally okay if that’s your vibe, lol) or just not my style. On the other hand, I noticed there were also people using hot yoga towels but they were slipping and sliding under other student’s feet.  Read More>>

The thought process behind starting my own business honestly came from something much deeper than wanting to own a studio. Fitness has always been a part of who I am. I grew up as a competitive dancer, and when that chapter of my life ended, I felt a little lost. I poured that same passion, discipline, and emotion into strength training and eventually Pilates, and somewhere along the way, fitness became more than just movement for me, it became healing. I knew I wanted to have an impact on my community no matter how small and I felt through opening a yoga studio I could do that. Having a place for people to go and settle their minds and move their bodies after a long day or are going through difficult times means a lot. Yoga isn’t just about moving your body, it is more about calming the central nervous system, noticing how distracted we are at any given moment. People don’t just come here for the physical aspect, they come to see their yogi friends, to feel support from the community. Read More>>

From a young age, I instinctively found myself in the role of a helper. Whether it was supporting friends through personal challenges in grade school or offering guidance to others, I felt a deep sense of fulfillment in listening and providing direction. As I progressed in my career and explored various healthcare avenues, I consistently found myself drawn to roles that involved counseling and therapeutic support. It became increasingly clear that my purpose was to be a therapist. Read More>>

Starting my own business came from a mix of wanting control over my future and seeing real opportunity in the work I was already doing. I realized that instead of building someone else’s company, I could apply my skills, work ethic, and attention to detail to create something of my own. I wanted the freedom to make decisions, set my own standards for quality, and build a reputation based on reliability and honest work. At the same time, I saw a demand in the market and knew that if I stayed consistent and delivered great results, the business could grow. It wasn’t just about making money—it was about creating stability, taking pride in my work, and building something long-term that I could fell proud and stand behind. Read More>>

I didn’t start FORM Creative with the intention of simply “owning a business.” It came from wanting to create work in a more intentional, collaborative, and hands-on way. After years of working at global agencies and in-house for major real estate developers, I realized I was most fulfilled when I could connect strategy, storytelling, and design closely together rather than treating them as separate pieces.
