Meet Jennifer Purcell | Co-Founder of Comfort Capital and Comfort Communities

We had the good fortune of connecting with Jennifer Purcell and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Jennifer, what role has risk played in your life or career?
I’ve always believed that you have to take risks to succeed—there’s simply no reward without risk. Throughout my life and career, risk-taking has played a huge role in shaping who I am and where I’ve ended up.
My approach to risk is that sometimes you just have to go for it, even when you don’t know all the answers about how you’re going to get there. I’ve found that waiting until you have complete certainty or a perfect plan often means missing out on the best opportunities. The key is distinguishing between reckless gambles and calculated risks that align with your goals and values.
For example, when we purchased our first $10 million dollar property, it was a significant leap that required us to stretch beyond our comfort zone. We didn’t have all the answers about how every aspect would play out—the financing was complex, the market conditions weren’t perfect, and there were unknowns about the property’s full potential. But we had done our homework, understood the fundamentals, and saw the opportunity. Instead of waiting for the ‘perfect’ moment or until we had every detail figured out, we made the decision to move forward. That investment became a cornerstone of our growth and opened doors we never could have imagined.
What I learned from that experience was that while I couldn’t control every outcome, I could control my preparation, my commitment to learning along the way, and my willingness to adapt when things didn’t go exactly as planned.
I think the most successful people I know aren’t necessarily the ones who avoid failure, but the ones who are comfortable with uncertainty and see challenges as opportunities to grow. Risk-taking has taught me resilience, creativity in problem-solving, and the confidence that even when things don’t work out perfectly, I can handle whatever comes next and turn it into a learning experience.
That said, I’m not reckless—I try to be thoughtful about understanding potential downsides and having contingency plans where possible. But at the end of the day, I’d rather take a calculated risk and potentially fail than wonder ‘what if’ for the rest of my life.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I’m incredibly proud to have helped co-found Comfort Capital and Comfort Communities alongside my family. What sets us apart is our genuine commitment to maintaining that family-run feel while staying true to our core values of faith, family, and integrity. We’re most proud of the amazing team we’ve grown and the strong relationships we continue to build with our investors as we expand and acquire more properties.
Our journey began in 2008 when my dad, Wayne Comfort—a San Diego construction developer with a blue-collar background—introduced my brother Blake and me to ‘Rich Dad Poor Dad’ by Robert Kiyosaki. That book completely changed our perspective and inspired us to set an ambitious goal of $20,000 per month in passive income. We didn’t have the knowledge to get there, so we borrowed $26,000 from our grandmother to attend an investment education program. We didn’t have the money, but we had the drive and determination.
That program opened our eyes to manufactured housing communities—a niche, cash-flow-rich asset class we’d never considered. In 2009, we found our first acquisition: a 28-space community in Brighton, Colorado. We didn’t even have cash for the earnest money, so we put it on a credit card. With that deal closed, Comfort Capital & Comfort Communities was officially born, with Blake leading acquisitions and vision, me handling management and accounting, and Wayne overseeing strategy.
Was it easy? Absolutely not. One of our biggest challenges came early on when my dad lost his sight entirely midway through one of our earliest deals. Suddenly, Blake was acting as Dad’s guide, walking him through properties and describing every detail, while I—still in college—took on heavier operational and financial responsibilities. It was an incredibly difficult season for our family, but it taught us discipline, resilience, and gave us the foundation for our long-term vision.
Persistence has been absolutely key to where we are today. Every challenge we’ve faced, we’ve kept pushing forward, and every time we’ve been rewarded for that perseverance. There was no playbook in those early years—just hard work, trial and error, and figuring it out as we went.
Today, we own 25 communities with four more under contract, representing over 2,300 spaces in operation and another 314 spaces pending acquisition. Our portfolio spans Arizona and Texas, and between Comfort Capital and Comfort Communities, we employ 65+ team members. We’re managing a gross asset value of $300 million and executing on a five-year plan to scale to $1 billion in assets under management by 2030.
What I want the world to know is that this investment opportunity is truly a win for everyone involved. We’re providing affordable housing for families while delivering great returns for our investors. We take immense pride in improving the communities we acquire, ensuring residents have clean, safe, and enjoyable environments to call home—which also increases property values for everyone.
At Comfort Capital, we pride ourselves on offering a seamless and transparent investment experience. Our seasoned team ensures every step of the investment journey is handled with utmost care, from meticulous investment selection to our vertically-integrated management approach. We believe that to achieve success in life and business, you must first have a rock-solid foundation—in our case, that’s our faith in God.
Our goal is simple: to provide communities that anyone would be proud to call HOME, while creating extraordinary environments with amazing service through housing installation, technology, and large-scale community improvements. We’ve never lost investor money nor had a capital call, and we remain rooted in the same family-driven values that started this journey back in 2009. It’s our long-term intention to improve the lives of as many people as we can, one community at a time.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
If my best friend was visiting San Diego for a week, I’d want to show them the perfect mix of iconic spots and those simple, meaningful moments that make life so special!
We’d definitely start with a trip to Coronado and the legendary Hotel Del Coronado. There’s something magical about that place—the history, the beautiful architecture, and those stunning beach views. We’d spend time on Coronado Beach, maybe grab drinks at the hotel and just soak in that classic Southern California vibe.
Another must-do would be a full day at Del Mar Beach. The sand, the waves, the laid-back atmosphere—it’s pure perfection. After beach time, we’d adventure through downtown Del Mar, browsing all the charming little shops and boutiques. For dinner, we’d definitely hit up Poseidon or one of the other amazing ocean-view restaurants. There’s nothing quite like dining with the Pacific Ocean as your backdrop!
We’d also treat ourselves to a spa day because sometimes you just need that ultimate relaxation and pampering. There’s nothing better than unwinding with massages, facials, and just letting all the stress melt away together.
Here’s something fun that might surprise people about San Diego—we’d go ice skating! It’s been a childhood favorite of mine, and there’s something so nostalgic and joyful about gliding around the rink. Even in sunny Southern California, those childhood memories come flooding back, and it’s always such a blast.
But honestly, some of my favorite moments would be the simple ones at home. We’d spend time at the pool, swimming and relaxing, and I’d definitely get them hooked on pickleball—it’s become such a passion of mine! We’d take the dogs for long walks, maybe explore some local hiking trails, and just enjoy those easy conversations that happen when you’re not rushing around.
What I love most about San Diego is that you can have these amazing, picture-perfect experiences but also just enjoy the simple pleasures—good food, great weather, and quality time with people you care about. That combination of adventure and relaxation is what makes this place so special, and I think that’s exactly what makes for the best kind of trip with a best friend!”

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Absolutely—I’m a firm believer that no one succeeds alone, and I’ve been blessed with incredible people and influences that have shaped my journey.
First and foremost, I want to give a huge shoutout to my late dad, Wayne Comfort. He was such an instrumental figure in my life, teaching me the value of hard work, integrity, and perseverance. The lessons he instilled in me from an early age about business, life, and never giving up have been the foundation of everything I’ve accomplished.
My brother, Blake Comfort, also deserves enormous recognition. Having someone who truly understands your vision and supports your dreams unconditionally makes all the difference. Blake has been there through every challenge and celebration, and I couldn’t have asked for a better partner in both business and life.
I also have to mention the book ‘Rich Dad Poor Dad’ by Robert Kiyosaki. That book completely shifted my mindset about money, investing, and building wealth. It opened my eyes to possibilities I hadn’t considered before and gave me the financial education that traditional schooling never provided. It’s one of those books that doesn’t just inform you—it transforms how you think.
And finally, my husband, Chris Purcell—who is hands down my biggest fan at home. His unwavering support, encouragement, and belief in me, especially during those moments when I’m taking big risks or pushing beyond my comfort zone, gives me the confidence to keep going. Having someone in your corner who celebrates your wins and lifts you up during the tough times is truly priceless.
These people and influences have been the wind beneath my wings, and I’m incredibly grateful for each of them.
