Meet David Cutler | Disc Jockey & party rocker!

We had the good fortune of connecting with David Cutler and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi David, can you tell us more about your background and the role it’s played in shaping who you are today?
I was born and raised in San Diego, CA! Growing up in San Diego, I was surrounded by a melting pot of cultures that shaped not only my perspective on life but also my approach to music. The city’s vibrant mix of influences—from Latin rhythms and reggae vibes to hip hop, punk, and electronic sounds—gave me a deep appreciation for the power of music as a universal language. Being a disc jockey in this environment meant more than just mixing beats; it meant honoring traditions, respecting diversity, and curating experiences that brought people from different walks of life together on the dance floor. That cultural foundation continues to guide my craft and keeps me rooted in the idea that music is both a reflection of community and a tool for unity.
At the heart of my journey is a lifelong love for music. It has been my compass, teaching me discipline, creativity, and empathy. Every set I play is an opportunity to share emotions, tell stories, and give people a moment to escape or connect with one another. Being a DJ isn’t just about skill behind the turntables; it’s about being open to learning, adapting, and letting music shape you into a more well-rounded person. The culture I was raised in and the passion I carry for sound have both instilled in me a respect for artistry and a responsibility to give people an experience that uplifts them.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
What sets me apart as a DJ is the trust I’ve earned from top industry professionals who continue to refer me to their clients. Over the years, I’ve been recommended to perform at prestigious locations ranging from luxury hotels and high-end resorts to exclusive private events. These referrals speak to both the professionalism and energy I bring to every performance. I’ve had the honor of being recognized with awards that highlight my level of quality that I provide, whether I’m curating a sophisticated lounge vibe, commanding a nightclub, or igniting a wedding dance floor. At the core, I’m a true party rocker—I take pride in reading a crowd, blending genres seamlessly, and creating an atmosphere where people can let go and celebrate life together.
The journey to this point has not been easy, but the challenges have been invaluable. Breaking into the industry required long nights, constant practice, and finding ways to stand out in a competitive market. I overcame obstacles by staying authentic, embracing versatility, and never losing my passion for music. The biggest lesson I’ve learned is that success in this field comes from equal parts talent, persistence, and humility. I want the world to know that my brand is about more than just playing music—it’s about creating memorable experiences, building community, and sharing the joy that first drew me to the art. My story is rooted in resilience, fueled by love for the craft, and carried forward by the people who believe in what I do.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
If my best friend came to visit me in San Diego for a week, I’d make sure they experienced the city’s perfect blend of culture, food, and fun! We’d start with some street tacos at La Fuente’s near Montgomery field, then stroll through the Gaslamp Quarter for nightlife and live music. While in the Gaslamp I would make sure to take them to the top of the Marriott Gaslamp and check out Altitude Sky Lounge! They have some of the most amazing views of the city as well as a perfect place to watch a Padres game! At least one day would be reserved for the beach—whether it’s body surfing at Torrey Pines State Beach, skim boarding at Marine Street, bonfires on fiesta island, or just relaxing at La Jolla Shores. For a taste of San Diego’s craft beer scene, we’d hit Ballast Point or Modern Times, and no trip would be complete without a Padres game at Petco Park.
Beyond the food and nightlife, I’d take them to Balboa Park to wander through the museums and the world-famous San Diego Zoo, then spend a day exploring Old Town for history and of course some authentic Mexican cuisine at Old Town Mexican Café! We’d take a drive over the Coronado bridge for some small-town coastal charm, local cuisine, and stunning ocean & sunset views from the Hotel Del. Then for something unique, we could wake up early one morning and hike up Cowles Mountain just in time to watch the sunrise over San Diego.
To me, what makes San Diego special isn’t just the places—it’s the people, the weather, and the overall vibe. That mix of culture, community, and coastal beauty guarantees a week to remember.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I owe all of my success to my family. From a young age, my parents encouraged me to chase my dreams, giving me both the confidence and the foundation to pursue music. My father’s love for music naturally rubbed off on me, while my mother’s patience, understanding, and vision gave me the focus I needed to start piecing together my first DJ system at just 14 years old. Today, my wife and children continue that legacy of support, helping me navigate the demands of a complex work schedule while making sure we carve out meaningful time together as a family.
