We had the good fortune of connecting with Jasmine Jones and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jasmine, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
I’ve always been one to want to sell my artwork. In grade school I used to draw pictures and sell them for 10 cents! My business has evolved over the years and it really kicked off near the end of my college days since I had more experience and confidence under my belt. In “officially” starting my business, I buckled down to be my own spokesperson. This included participating in markets, reaching out to local shops, making a Patreon page, and making my own website to reach wider audiences. I want to get my artwork into the hands of everyone and know that it’s enjoyed. Even moreso, I love making my art accessible. As far back as I can remember, I’ve thought art was hands off and overly prestigious. I now try my best to combat this. My business and my art are built to be comforting, cozy, and approachable.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I’ve been doing art professionally almost the past decade. It hasn’t always been easy, but I do think it’s always been rewarding. I’ve continued to push and build the community I currently have with me. I’ve learned to play and to not be afraid to experiment. Fun fact: When I get frustrated with making my work, I switch up mediums. (I’ve learned this from my fellow creative and friend, Marissa Raglin.) Collage tends to help the quickest! Playing has also brought me conversations and collaborations with other creatives. One grand thing that has come from this is my branded tea “Dream Bits” that I created with my creative partner, Kelley Queen, under our duo Jelliii.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I love searching for new places to check out around town, but some of my favorite tried and true places are Gold Dome Coffee Shop, Neighborhood Jam, Tatsumaki, Tamashii, Sushi Neko, DNA Galleries, Factory Obscura’s Mix Tape, Floating Bookshop, the RINK Gallery, and Love Me Two Times.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Arts Council Oklahoma City! They’ve done and continue to do so much for me. I appreciate them so much.
